I thought I wouldn't like this however, it's far more musical than I was expecting.

Enjoy

I listened to it on Amazon Music last week while driving. Not bad. Need to give it another listen to see if anything really jumps out at me though.

I've got it. Phenomenal playing, although I'd like it a lot more if he'd just settle in on a cool rhythm and play something more musically simple over it. I've listened through about three times now - a little fatiguing at times. I do like the "Snake in my Boot" song for it's VH/Satriani feel.

i dig it... definitely not resting on his laurels on that one... killer stuff

Glassy-Eyed Zombies is badass. Killer chorus/tones.

Overall, his first album is superior. This one has too much fluff.

I dig about 70% of this which for ME, is a lot. I get very bored of instrumental cd's quick. Love his playing.

Me too. Instrumental albums get old, pretty quick. I love them for a couple days/week, then get bored.

This guy's pretty sick too. I LOVE Chris Amott's playing and this guy took lessons from him, and played in Armageddon with him as well.

I went to see Joey when he was openning up for Joe Stump at a local dive and I bought his album "alignment" and I agree, it's good, suprisingly good. Yngwie tone.

This is pretty bad ass!

Indeed it is, Jez.

Petrucci's album's not-half-bad too.

If you're a fan of Chris Amott, you hear his influence.

Sounds like a guy heavily influenced by Jeff Loomis.

Portnoy is always a fantastic drummer!
I also prefer his first album to this.
Snake in my boot is nice, but needed a more british, and less chorused, tone...IMO.

Agreed. It sounds a bit like it's coming from a transistor box like a Rockman or something, and that IMHO is only because of the chorus.

A little reminiscent of Tom Schultz' tone... but not as "big" and with fretboard-meltin' finger work.

i like the genimi tune lot, its an old song from the awake/rock dicipline era

Joey is also a great player, new album soon too

There’s no way to deny the phenomenal playing. That being said , I listened to the whole album once and it bored me to tears. Great sleepy time music

It's taken me a couple of listens to get into, but I'm really enjoying it. Huge JP fan.

I'm in the minority, I like it a little better than his first one, but I might have to give that one a spin again for comparison.

Regarding his crunch chorused tones, I completely agree. Even in the more recent JP2C demos he's done, when he kicks on the chorus, in conjunction with his crunch tones, something (the balls and chunk) just gets lost. Even live, in context with the full band, he can have the most massive crunch tone going and when he switches to his crunch/chorus setting...meh.  His clean/chorused tones on the other hand...damn

Seeing DT live on the Astonishing tour really made me want to check out a JP2C, which I still have to do...if I can find one. The bassist in my band and I both agreed that he had some of the most amazing live guitar tones we'd ever heard.
