Hard to get a pure sense of the amp's tone when you consider the chorus, double tracking, the board adding high end etc... crunchy as hell though. Amazing player.

I've actually posted this here a couple times myself. Absolutely one of the best rhythm tones of that era for sure. Thank God Bob Rock was hanging around the studio next door.

i was wondering how i would add the chorus, it sounds quad tracked to me so im thinking probably a track on each side with chorus
Maybe just a light dusting on the guitar bus? Quad tracking already gives off that chorus-y vibe…
I’ve got the UA AMS plug in. It’s nice.

Well f**** me. That's a lot less gain than I thought

My fav on that album's gotta be Crying In The Rain and Here I Go Again, though

A lot of people found it jarring, but the switch from Sykes' big tight rhythm to Adrian's looser lead playing was perfect for me.

He ran 2 black/no stripe Coliseums, with a stereo chorus splitting the signal into each Coli. HUGE sound. Through the Mesa Halfbacks with EV/C90s. For leads he used a Marshall G12 65 cab.
IF I remember correctly.

There was also sth about a Jose-modded Marshall for leads on some songs.

Was that confirmed or debunked?

Pretty sure that's also correct; I remember it was used on the lead for Is This Love? for sure. That Jose is a modded 800 1959 that he used on Bad Boy Live; the intro to Cold Sweat is epic tone.

Johns setup for the WS87 was two no stripe Coliseum MK3 running at the same time/ The guitar signal was split into two signals... one went dry to one stack, and the other one went into a PCM41, with a very short delay, and then into the second MK3. And that what gives you that slightly chorused effect. He also double tracked and panned the rhythm guitars. That was all he used for drive tones on the WS87. I don't remember well, but I think he said he used a Jazz Chorus for the clean parts, but I could be wrong. He used his LP Custom for most of the distorted parts. He also used his Jr and his Strat on that album.
He also told me the two 50w 4 input 800 were not used during the WS87, tho they were the amps John toured with before the WS87 album. They were not modded by Jose before the WS87. That happened after.
He is one of those guitar players that I've never heard one track he ever did the sounded ok or bad. Everything he played and recorded sounded beyond incredible.
