Just bought a 2004 Herbert. I am a Diezel noob. What I am wondering is:

Are there different revisions of this amp?

If so, what are the differences?

Can the 2004 take different output tubes like the recent Herberts?

What years were the ones with the external bias test points?

Thanks!

1. Yes

2. Not enough to worry about

3. Yes

4. Later Ones. ie: late 2006-2007

i have a 2004 version...and it KILLS. so stop worrying & go turn it up!

Unless I've missed something, there is no difference in the voicing of the Herberts from the earliest to current. The external bias points and LED lights were added at serial numbers somewhere in the 700's IIRC (not positive on that). The newest Herberts in the last 6 months or so no longer have the external bias points.

You can use nearly any tube you want. I highly suggest KT 88's.

External bias started in 2005 I believe. The LEDs started in Mid-2006. Mine is #585 and I got it direct from Germany in Aug 2006 - it has the tube fault LEDs.

Not worried, just curious. :D I won't get it til next week and believe me, I will be turning it up. I am anxious to hear it in my band and see what all the fuss about not cutting through a mix is all about.

I got to play mine loud last night and the other guitarist has an Elmwood M60, TMB18 and a Ceriatone Jubilee and all 3 sound great and cuts in a band mix. The Herbert in both of our opinions cut just as well and sounded huge in the process of doing so. I guess there are a lot of factors, we tried V30s, Scumback M and H series speakers in Marshall and Splawn cabinets and each had different attributes to them and I can see where some affect the cut in a mix. Funny though this is the speaker and not the amp, maybe before somebody says and amp cannot cut in a mix they should look at all the components in the signal chain....
