Don't know how many of y'all have played one of these amps, but especially for an amp made in 1992, this thing is overridden with features that just weren't available on any amps I know of during the early nineties. The amp sounds SPECTACULAR STOCK AS HELL!!! I boost all of my amps, so I did the same with this one, but it'll do any variety of tones imaginable with more bells and whistles than I've ever seen on a Marshall. Checkout the link and see for yourselves! Bought it on Guitar Center card of course since I've got no cash. Going through divorce, so the debt will be considered half her's! Genius right?  http://marshallamps.com/heritage/annive ... ersary.asp

One more link...this one is for the manual that really describes all the details. Y'all have gotta try one of these things! http://marshallamps.com/downloads/files ... %20hbk.pdf

Which version did you get? There's 4 different versions.

Limited: Blue, with gold coating on everything. Emblems, chassis, tube retainers etc. They only made a small amount of them.
Regular Blue: Blue full stack.
Black: Just like the blue, but came out after '92 with black Tolex
LM: Lead Mod. changed the gain structure of the lead channel, maybe some other stuff, and put 5881's in it instead of EL34's Probably 93-94

I've had the last three, and I agree, they're pretty damn good amps, with some awesome features. I think they should have kept making them.

I think they had some problems with with something on the board, maybe overheating. I'm not sure, I just read about it somewhere.

Awesome amp man. I used one for years. I heard a lot of people had issues with the combo version of the amp. I think it had to do with heat. But I don't remember. I had zero issues with the head.

As said, great amp, I had the blue EL34 version stack for a while, as well as the 5881 LM combo. Many, many tones. I liked the 1st mode of ch2 and ch 3 the best, but you could get great sparkley cleans out of it, and it did everything from SRV up to Anthrax.

To get best out of it, I would also throw a boost in front and then just forget about those comp switches.

The EL34 version is also better IMO, even though the LM model has more gain on ch 3, the warmth you get from the blue amp is a worthy trade off, and besides, the EL34 model has more than enough gain anyway.

Congrats!!

I had the blue head without the bling...coolest modern Marshall by a landslide IMO.

Hey man you have to let me come over and play on you're awesome amp collection haha.

SCORE!
Congrats man
I have a friend who has the combo version LTD, he had some issue's with heat, he just puts a regular tabletop fan a few feet behind it, he did not want to mount a fan inside the amp. It was fine after that, I guess being upside down the combos transfer much more heat than the head versions. I've not heard of issue's with the head versions.
Very cool amp, they get a ton of tones. His sounds WAY better through a 412 cab w/V30's

i remember when they came out and all the music shops had them in, i remember thinking i bet that thing sounds ace....wow i feel old now :D

I had the combo 6101LE, no issues with the heat, but they are known for heat issues. Mainly with the Midi functions. Still a good idea to run a fan if you have the combo.

When I had mine, I wished you could footswitch between the a, b, and c modes on channel 2. Channel 1, 2a, and 2b were my favorites. I didn't care much for channel 2c or channel 3.

I think Steve via used these for a while, I think fargen did some mods on it and is good with these heads. Cool amp and nice score!

I owned a LM for a few years around 96/97. Bought it new from the store I worked in. I actually replaced my VHT UL with it because it sounded better in the band mix. Liked it a lot. It came stock with EL34's. 5881's were used in the early 90's because EL34's were not readily available in decent quality so Marshall had to switch. That's why many of the JCM900's came with them. By the time the LM was released 34's were becoming more available. The heat issue was with the combo only and usually just to the detriment of the midi module.

I had an LM with 5881's and didn't love it...sounded very thin. I'd like to try the non LM version with EL34's

I remember on mine I would try a balancing act of the bass boost/low volume compensate switch and riding the bass control so it balanced at band volume. It was never perfect but sounded pretty fat without being flabby. I was playing a lot of drop C at the time. If that low volume compensate switch was modded for a sweepable depth control it would be awesome.

Nice score! I have an 5881 LM in my rack, and agree with everything you say. I personally am a big fan of the 5881, it sounds less Marhsall-y in a way. Channel 2 is one of the best crunch channels ever!! Also, the dual FX loops I've never seen on another amp, and it's central to my rig. I have a mulit-fx running in the parallel loop, but I wired the serial loop into my RG-16, and share the power amp with a Soldano SP77 for two more channels.

Thanks for the comments dudes. To answer one question, it is the 2nd tier model in the sense that the 1st tier would be the amp with an actual brass chassis, so mine is the next one down that has purple tolex with the standard gold chassis like you'd see on most Marshalls. And for whoever it was that wants to come over and play my amps, please be my guest if you're in the area. If that's so just send me a PM and we'll set it up! Guitar Center charge cards with 12 months no payments are the bomb!
