Just thought I'd pop in and post a pic of me playing my first gig using the Renegade. The amp sounded awesome and I had plenty of people coming up to me after the show to tell me how great I sounded :)

The Boost was perfect for me on the solos and I got a real rip roaring sound that tore right through the mix.

I am more of a combo guy as I can't see lugging two things rather than one, but I have to admit that the one time I played a Renegade head through the Tourmaster 2 X 12 cab it was probably the best sounding thing I ever heard. Love my Renegade 2 X 12! I get compliments about it as well.

well, after two years of gigging every weekend and recording in between, My Renegade gave out on me in the first song in front of a packed house...I had been bragging about how reliable it has been.....lol.....the power light stayed on, the tubes were lit up...no fuses blown, but smelled burnt inside, probably one of the transformers..i intend to contact Egnater Ampflication® Monday morning about this....the amp has never been up to half power and i was was running two Egnater 1x12 cabs at 8ohms with new speaker chords...there really is no good reason for some thing like this to happen....every now and then i'd hear a noise coming out of it on the gain channel that would go away if i tapped the head, and the occasional microphonic tube squeal, but those were periodic.......I would love to hear from Bruce, as i have personally been selling his tickets out there....it's a great sounding amp but I'm very disappointed this happened and wonder if I'm the only one....Tim McGovern.

Sounds like you gave it a pretty solid workout for two years! Shit happens sometimes. Similar thing happened to my old Mesa after a few years. Doesn't mean Mesas are crap.

I have to find out who works on these things near me...or do I have to ship it off to Egnater....

I think that depends on whether or not you need warranty work. That has to be done by an Egnater rep. Otherwise, most worthy amp repair facilities should be able to work on it.

I'm sure an Egnater rep will correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe it is still under the three year warranty against defects.i've taken very good care of it because i love the way it sounds....just surprised at the tranny burn-out....i've filled out the form on Egnater's website, so we'll see if their customer service is as good as the product has been up until now...i've heard some good and only a little bad about that, but the bad review could be from a competitor.......internet being what it is.

They will take care of you. Sometimes it takes a while to get their attention. I think this forum is better at getting their notice than their website.

Someone will get a hold of you asap I'm sure, but I'm not entirely sure how you've diagnosed a transformer failure? The guys will direct you on service steps when they contact you, but in the future, if you are experiencing issues, hitting the amp to fix it will only delay a possible more serious issue in the future. As with any electronics, if you hit it and it fixes it, then it's likely an intermittent connection of some sort, that should be addressed before it fails for good at the least convenient time.

Doing a promo video shoot next week, so I'll have to crank that baby right up :)

Keep the group posted on this. Very curious to hear what the diagnosis is and what the fix is. Thanks! Sorry to hear it's acting up too, of course. Sucks when you have issues on stage. Always a good idea to have a back up ready to go.... like a Rebel 20.. lol

it's in the shop...Nate took all of 5 minutes to give me an RA number for warranty work at a place up here in Tacoma that's fairly well known........so it's in their court now...supposed to have it back today since i paid a "rush" fee

my back-up is now a Tweaker88.......LOLz......that thing is SICK!.no line-out, no reverb, no nuthin but KT88's in your face with some switchable EQ patches thru the 2x12 Tweaker cabinet...looks like something out of the Brady Bunch and sounds like a Hi-Watt on the "clean" side and a Death Metal Kill Zone on the grind side....holy crap!...and I mean that in a good way...gonna use it tonite even if the renegade's fixed.....and at some point am gonna use both with an ABY switch.heh heh heh.

a quick update....Steve the amp tech at Sound West called Nate wednesday to ask him if he wanted Steve to fix the component himself or did Nate want to send him the part...Nate has yet to get back to him and I have a gig tonite.......had Nate been a little quicker to get back to the service guy Steve i could have had my renegade back for the gig tonite...the PROBLEM was the pre-amp printed circuit board fried itself(a capacitor shorted out)..so it was not tubes or transformers and certainly not any mistreatment on my part...in fact Steve the tech said my tubes had plenty of life in them and he could tell I haven't been abusing it .....so the ball is in Egnater's court right now...like I said I'll trade that Tweaker 88 for a DoctorZ or something if I don't get a response in a reasonable amount of time.....again,the tech said he could fix the component, but also said Egnater doesn't really like him to do that.......a simple yes or no, Nate.let's go!

I have to say, I got my Renegade fixed and back online in 5 business days!.....I paid a $35 "rush" charge to the repair shop which put me in the front of the line.....i've paid a LOT more and been treated a LOT worse..after 2 years and almost 1000 hours on those JJ's, Steve at Sound West Audio told me I still have plenty of life in them....i had set the bias according to the owner's manual (which was quite necessary as the JJ's showed a much hotter reading than the Sovtek's and Ruby's that came with the amp)...my other Renegade that I bought as a fast back-up, not knowing how long the warranty repair would take is staying......I'm a Renegade guy all the way!.........i just bought an Orange TH 30 head in case I was going to return the other Renegade......it's staying too......lol....and btw the guy at Sound West Audio said they don't see any Orange heads come thru there....or Bogner either...everybody else has problems where they didn't quite get everything right...I won't name names but some very spendy amps come with some very shitty tubes according to the repair place.
