Just played the Iconic a bit again.

What a good amp. Stopped by the local GC just to see what they had and they had a VTM120 on a Orange 212 so I HAD to check it out. No secret that I love VTM's and this one didn't disappoint.
So then I decided to give the Iconic head and cab a little spin (store levels). Excellent amp. I've played them in the store twice before with the same conclusion.
All I need is that green channel to be honest. The Red channel is cool, but I'd rather just boost the green if I needed more.
My dream Iconic would be a 40 watt head with just the green channel. No reverb or gate.
Hoping to actually buy one at some point to see if I like it at keeping up with a drummer levels.

I am probably buying the head because I am starting a band, and it can do what I need. Put one with some old 75's and it rips.

I've been thinking of getting a Iconic head myself. For the price, especially used, kind of hard to beat.

I really like all I have heard of it. Is the effects loop problematic?

What would you say the differences are? In the clips I've heard it seems like the EL34 version is a bit smoother. I don't want that.
. To me the el34 is like a 5150 and a modded Marshall had a baby. Smooth is not the term I would use at all. But who knows. Being mass produced? They could all sound different. Edit: I did like the 6l6 but it just didn’t check any boxes for me. But I didn’t give it much of a chance.

Are these made in China?
At $899 new/shipped what do you think?

That's a bit of a thing with me but in this case I was willing to overlook it and order one from SW. Worst case it blows rotten fish guts and will send back.

Will try different tubes and check the bias..at this price I expect they shoved the cheapest tubes they could find on the planet into it..

Mine came with JJ‘s

Here's a video of my buddy @Shredsmcgee making noise with the Iconic vs Wizard MC50 6L vs Ground Zero modded Friedman SS. Amps going thru both 4x12s, Marshall with GBs and Soldano with V30/Scumback BM75LD mix.
Explorer with ToneNerd Psykes. Soloist with EMGs. Mesa Cleo klone used to boost here n there.
A BBE Sonic Stomp in the Iconic effects loop added clarity and punch, putting it on par with the other amps. The Iconic is stupid bang-4-buck for heavier tones.

There’s just this plastic type sound to the gain and the top end that I just can’t stand on the iconic. It has dumb amounts of gain and it punches way above its price point but recorded it just doesn’t sound right to my ears.
