What are the major differences between v30's and K100's
Looking for something that will work well with a VH4 in a 212 cab

Thanks for looking!!!

i would like to hear opinions on this as well, although not specific to VH4's.

From what I've gathered, the G12K-100 is similar to a G12T-75, but more neutral and not quite as scooped. Big thick bottom end, sweet top end.

V30s are not as balanced (upper mid spike, decent bottom, but not huge by any means) Very raw and in your face sounding speaker. I think they would mix beautifully.

i have that mix in a deliverace cab and a top warhead cab. love them both. would really like to try a cab with all k-100's.

how do you think it would sound if you did, compared to the mix?

With my previous Diezel Herbert and Einstein, I had a K100 and a V30 mixed together in my Diezel 2x12 after trying various speakers in there. They worked great together and complemented each other frequency-wise. The K100 had a nice grind to it and a heavier bottom end and wasn't as middy.....while the V30 had a smooth but pronounced mid to it.

I've got a 4x12 K100 and a 4x12 V30 (amongst others). What's been said above is basically the facts. The V30 equipped box will cut better in the mix, offer the mid bite, yada yada yada. The K100 is neutral, great for mic'ing and recording, has a thunderous bottom end yet holds it well. I personally dig the K100 MORE than the V30 with my Diezels and like the V30 MORE with my Bogner and Mak4. It's all personal - but for live/gig/jam - I'd go V30. For studio/reference/mic/recording - I'd go K100.

Yes to just about everything that has been said so far. I had some GK-85s(exact same as GK-100s) and V30s. A 4x12 loaded with each(same make, model of cab). The GK85 is a more neutral sounding speaker. I liked them but I liked the V30s better so I sold them off. They also do play nicely together. I might have a couple of clips of the two I'll try to find.

Found them.
Splawn Nitro G12K-85 I'm pretty sure I used a SM58 for this. One track

Splawn Nitro V30 and SM57, One track

This one is the GK85 and V30 recorded at the same time with a SM57 and SM58. One track split L and R. Might be phasing issues on this one. Not sure.

Real double track. V30 Right with SM57 and G12K-85 Left with SM58

In a mix

Hope it helps

Very nice, and helpful too. The 85 sounds really beefy and clear. I like that tone much more than a G12-T75 but I can hear that they're in the same family. The mix is really nice.

Thank you guy's soooooo MUCH!!!!!
This is exactly the type of advice I was looking for!!!

Looks like I will be trying a combo of the two in my vertical 212.

Those who have mixed and matched, haven't gone back

i like to mix em.

the v30 is really useful to get fat mids.

the k100 stays tight down low, and has more top end slice.

HUEG bass and don't sound distorted like V30s, which I guess is the softer midrange in the K100s.

The V30 is best for rock and metal and clean, the g12k-100 is a g12t-75 with 25 more watt handling.

I've used both with Herbert Hagen and vh4.
K100 smoother
V30 bites harder
Together perfect!

The G12T-100 is a G12T-75 w/ more handling. The K-100 sounds very different from the T75.

Yeah, I'd say they are pretty different sounding. I like them all but I like the V30s the best. I did have the G12K85s in an X pattern with the V30s for a little while and it sounded pretty damn good.
