Kahler Trem Locking Nut ?

I have Kahler on an 81 gibson V. Put on in around 86 or so. It doesn't seem to stay in tune when you pull up on it anymore. I am going to replace the springs. I just took it off tonight & made sure everything else was moving free. I know the locking clamp is slipping. It is the quick thumb-press type that goes behind the actual nut. Does anyone know of a different type i can install behind the nut. It is 1 5/8" wide.

Get rid of the Kahler lock and replace the nut with a Floyd Rose® R2 Locking Nut 1-5/8"

I would agree, but the width at the nut is 1 11/16", so I would go with an R3 nut if your guitar has binding, or an R4 if it does not have binding.

Is there a big difference in the narrower R3 1 11/16 vs. the R4 1 11/16 ?
Which on would you recommend for a Jackson DK1 ?
I'm not sure which one my DK1's have, R3 or R4, and I'd like to order some spares.
It has binding....so I'm guessing it came with the R3 ?

With out taking the nut off and looking at the bottom....can I measure the nut string spacing and figure out if its and R3 or an R4 ?

A lot of Jackson's have a 1 3/4" nut, which would be an R5. I would measure yours to make sure you get the right one.

Thanks...There is no binding.
can the Floyd nuts be screwed in from the top, without drilling thru the Neck? & what's the difference between the 3 & 4? they seem to have the same specs.

I've seen both kinds....the kind that can be screwed in from the top that Jackson and ESP use and the kind that have holes drilled thru and get screwed in from the bottom. The R3 has a narrower string spacing. The R4 has a wider string spacing. Both are 1 11/16"

The specs sheet on their website says Width at Nut = 1-11/16” for the DK1
