Made it down to see King's X / Extreme in Dallas, TX last night. King's X was amazing!!!! Stood by the guy running sound, and he really had things dialed in last night UBER well. Dug's tone was stellar, especially on the older stuff when he brought out his 8-string basses. Holy sh!t was it friggin awesome tone!! One question I have for Jeff is, is Dug using a M4 for some of his bass tones? I thought I saw a M4 in his rack, but I wasn't close enough to tell!
On to Ty's tone. Man was it stellar. The two M4's w/ the custom modules nailed all of his tones perfectly. Jeff, kudos for you, for getting that Gretchen tone. It was AMAZING how much it sounded like his old tone, yet had tons more depth and balls!!! The guys were extremely tight last night, and rocking the house. It was a very well attended gig for the King's X guys. After their set was done, a lot of people left. Extreme had a hard act to follow!!!
On to Extreme....in three words they sucked ass!!! Nuno's tone sounded horrible. His playing was really off, with tons of mistakes, and his amp sounded farted out and was really loose all the time. Gary Cherone was horrible to watch. I really like Extreme, and Nuno is one of my favorite guitar players, but he was very uninspiring last night. They had gear problems with the bass and tons of feedback from Gary's mic. It was very brutal to watch. It was probably the worst band I have seen live in quite some time. It was really disappointing for me, as I was really excited to see them. We ended up leaving after 8 or so songs as we just couldn't take it anymore.
Extreme should have been opening for King's X down here in TX. I really really really liked King's X live. It was the 5-6 time I've seen them, and they were the happiest, tightest that I had seen from them in years. (They were always tight, but man...this was a new level). If you can go see them, do it!!!!!
