Hey guys,
I was away for a bit and as I looked over the forum here I noticed Peter talking about KT88 tubes. The last time I was here it seemed like KT77 was the new tube of choice by Diezel. Has the opinion changed on this?

I dont think peter has changed his mind on kt-77's
just some people were asking about kt-88's is all

I had asked about KT88s, and Peter gave me some info.

I don't think there's been any announcement that Diezel amps will be shipping with KT88s any time soon.

I just do a testrun with the 6550-SED and there
are the most reliable tubes on the market.
Don´t take it as a bass amp tube. It get´s a nice
midrange honk with the bias at 50 mA.

The KT88 is not as rough as the 6550 because
it´s not designed for shipment.

I will tell my decision when I´m completely sure
about the power tube we use for the future.

Sorry for the confusement but we had too much
issues with EL34, 6L6 and KT77 in the past.

SED 6550 tubes surely are reliable and good sounding tubes. They do work very well in VH4 as well.

I was using KT88 (SED, remake Gold Lion, JJ) tubes in my VH4 until some reliability issues occured and finally one exploded inside the amp. Got pissed-off when cleaning the shards of glass from the withins of the amp and hence decided to go for something else. The sound of KT88 was really nice and glassy bell-like, but the sound that the 6550 provide seem to be a bit more organic in terms of guitar frequency range. Not to mention again the reliability issue.

Just do not expect any power amp saturation when using 6550 tubes. ;)

Correct. KT88s & 6550s (while two different tubes) provide almost zero power tube distortion. The have an exceptionally amount of headroom, and will probably work great for people using Diezel amps in lower volume situations, since there is little power tube coloration of the preamp signal.

Man, we are almost out of tubes to choose from :scared:
I still like the el-34's. The winged c tubes blew on me too fast, but the original TAD el34 that came in the VH4 lasted a long time and sounded really good. I guess I got a good set.
I think I will just stick with them for now.

i have the TADs now for a year, and one pair has gone bad just before christmas - i also just re-adjusted the other 2 pairs, and they were still at 70mA sharp.
