KT77 power tubes in a CCV?

I tried the Gold Lions. The last thing the CCV needs is more headroom, which is one reason you would consider the 77's over 34's. So, unless you are just curious, I don't think you will find that they do much for you.

I love the GL's but in the CCV the Winged C ruled supreme. They lasted about an hour and I never looked back. Some amps are great with the GL's. The CCV is not one of them.

Although, I would like to try the winged C's, I need to do other things rig-wise (like get my speaker combo happening) first before I start fucking w/the amp itself. I need to get the g12h30's... I'm using a Zinky 412 cab w/the Zinky Eminence (V30 clone) drivers.

In the 20th Ecstacy they were great. I convinced Ventura to give them a try and he loves them.

I had mine biased w/6L6's, and the cleans are great... but I think it took a little of the tightness out of the red channel, so...

They would work well in high gain amps that tend to loosen up and fall apart at higher settings, or where you would want to try and make something with more vintage gain in character turn a little more modern, especially with drop tunings and add some articulation. Otherwise, they would be pretty stiff with less sag and saturation in an amp where you wanted that. But, if you find yourself in that situation, Gold Lions are you tube. Top shelf tubes for sure.

I tried the Gold Lion and JJ KT77's. The GL's were nicer than the JJ's, but I preferred the Winged C's. I would love to try some 6L6's, 6550's and KT88's just for the hell of it.

6L6's in a CCV would probably be pretty cool tonewise. But, they would barely light up then go poof. Guess you could get them to work on the low output setting though.

6550's and 88's would make the CCV so tight that it would be annoying.

Of course, this is only my opinion, and I don't know shit.

Yeah, I don't need it so tight it can't breathe. I do love the way 6L6's make a clean section sound, but the cooler setting might lose some of the mojo on the hot side, nespa?!

I prefer the el34's, but it would still be fun to tinker. I'm thinking the 66's would sound good since the CCV has a ton of preamp gain.

Interesting... what would the difference (generally speaking) be, from el34's to KT66's? And, would it change the actual power rating? Would it give off less of a sense of saturation on the gain side? Oh god, save me, I think I've got a problem
