Has anyone tried KT88 tubes in their Vengeance?
They are not listed in the manual, but 6550 is and they are supposed to be closely related.
I have a pair of 6550 in my vengeance right now and it is the best tube I have tried yet.
Wondering if I should try KT88s or if the transformers would frown on that.
I just bought a new/demo Vengeance from Guitar Center on clearance.
Don't know which power tubes are in it yet, as I've read that they came with EL34's but later builds have 6L6's.
Their website says that the V comes with EL34's, but I've read on forums that post 2012 versions came with 6L6's.
The KT88 is used in Egnaters Tweaker 88.
Their claimed to be outstanding power tubes, though lower in power.
In the Tweaker 88 4-KT88 are rated for 88 watts.
I'd email Egnater on that one to make sure the KT88 pins will work with the V.
Even though many power tubes have the same pin number and position, some tubes don't use the pins in the same way.
One very cool thing about the V is that you can run pairs of different tube types.
You can run a pair of EL34's AND a pair of 6L6's, just bias each pair to their proper mV rating and off you go.
In 60 watt mode the amp uses tube 1 and 4.
I've got a matched pair of SED winged C 6L6's that I'll be putting in 1& 4 as I'll most likely be using the 60 watt mode at home.
Egnater should build a 1x12 or 2x12 Vengeance combo in 60 watts. If Egnater built that amp I'd be all over it.
It would be perfect for home, studio, and gigging.
Keep us posted on the KT88's.
