Leaving the modular world

Thought I would put this out to the team (Eganter guys) first. I am letting my modular stuff go. I have an M4 loaded with three modules,
* T/D
* SL2
* EG 3/4
and a Randall RT2/50 with fresh JJs installed.

:cry:

Units are in great shape and all functions working as designed.

Looking for cash or trade offers.

Cash:
I'm thinking $1600 for the loaded M4 and $700 for the RT2/50

Possible Trades or Partial Trades:
Amps or Preamps:
CAE
Mesa
Egnater TOL
Bogner
Marshall

Guitars:
Music Man (Ernie Ball)
PRS
Gibson

For the record the Egnater stuff is fun, very well built, and I really want (and have tried) to love it. I dig the cleans and the medium light overdrive stuff, however the lead tones are just not getting me where I want to be. I play classic rock, blues, light jazz, and the occasional country gig.

Let me know if anyone is interested in an entire Egnater preamp rig.

Thanks,

JCC

hey there ,

Before you ditch the rig ,if its only the lead tones your not digging maybe try different mods..

for your style ,COD,VX,SL may fit better sometimes picking the right mods takes a bit of time .see if someone will trade you.
Also see if Jeff can mod one to get you the lead tone you want ..good luck

I second this, COD/SL would be right up your alley, and also, you can get Jeff Hilligan to customize a module to your liking.

Good points guys,

It's just very difficult to get a hold of modules and try them out. For the record the T/D module is really nice, the other two are just two buzzy for me in the low registers. COD sounds like it might be a candidate. I've gone back to using my Mark IV for solo and crunch sounds.

Is anyone interested in a trade for a COD for either my EG3/4 or SL2?

I only have a t/d and an eg5 at the moment, but I've heard clips of all the others. I'm almost certain that there's a module, either stock or modded, that will deliver the tone your looking for. I say hang in there, really. :rock:

JCC - before you sell, try using a clean boost on the front end with the COD's B channel. Treble at 9:00 and go easy on the presence. Sounds very close to my Mark IV I think. Good luck.

Hey JCC,
The EG3/4 is anything but buzzy sounding. The SL2 is the end all type AC/DC type tone on A and heavier crunchy Marshall tone on the B side. I can't believe that you can't get a decent lead tone out of those (2) modules.
There are a lot of variables that could be affecting the sound/tone.
What are your settings on the modules and power amp?
Where do you have the volumes set to on the modules and power amp? Are you running anything between the M4 and power amp?
Which tubes are in the power amp?

On top of that, what cab are you running?

I had the Sl2 first and the MHG in my mod 50 and then the T/D and was not happy until I got the SL and vox modules and put in tongsol el34 tubes and wow they are something else. Also, I originally ordered an M4 and after reading many past posts that said the M4 is more metal sounding where as the mod50 was more classic rock/bluesier, I reorderd the mod50.
I also noticed I could not get a great sound on the the SL2 and MHG with my lower gain pickup guitars. Just didn't seem to match. But when the SL and vox arrived they matched up great and I sounded like all the recordings I heard all through the years..

for what its worth
:thumbsup:

Guys,

Thank you for all of the input. I believe I will try and come up with some of the lower gain modules before I bail. As for the MOD50 versus the M4 I have read the same posts and maybe the MOD50 would be a better fit.

As for cabinets and such:

I use a wide variety of cabs. My favorite is a Bogner Shiva 1X12 closed back, followed by my Marshall 1960A (with green backs). For straight- up studio stuff I use the Bogner (close mic SM57) with the Marshall isolated with a room mic. This setup has always served me well.

I believe the tubes in my modules and the M4 are stock tubes. The Randall is loaded with new JJs (6L6 and EL34).

The rest of my rig is pretty straightforward (Les Paul Classic stock, USA Strat noiseless, USA Strat HSS with trem). For effects I use a variety of rack and pedal stuff, some in front and some in back. In the studio I prefer straight up guitar to M4 direct into the Randall. I have a good recording area and I can crank all my amps (occasionally late at night I will use a hot plate)

I appreciate all suggestions (even old dogs can learn new tricks!)

Never heard anything Egnater described as buzzy. There must be something going on somewhere, cause that just can't be. My EG3/4 is so smooth it's not even funny.

Yea, hearing someone say that the EG3/4 is buzzy sounding to me is like hearing someone say they their Fender Twin is too dark. :lol: :LOL:

Just out of curiosity, since everyones tonal adjectives can vary, do you not dig the sounds on the Indoor Storm demos?

Amen. I found it easy to get the E-rect and to some degree, the EG5 a little buzzy but the EG3/4 is SMOOTH IMO. Even at low volume.

SL2 in the Mod 50 with Tung Sol EL34s is heaven. It will do classic rock to metal no problem. I think the reason I like the Mod 50 so much is it is very warm and thick which is what I like even for metal and progressive rock. That is why I shy away from the RM100 and RT50 rack. Head units alweays seem better to me than rack systems and the 100 watts scare me with the added headroom although would be nice to have.

Once again, thank you all for your input. I working on a couple of ideas that may include a MOD50 and possibly a COD. Results to follow.
