So, I'm super pumped on this piece of gear, however, not super pumped on the recorded tone, so let me preface with that.

I was lucky enough to pick up the Hot Mod V2 locally used. someone turned it in to my local shop I frequent, and I was able to score it for $100 out the door. I posted about it online, and David hit me up anc actually offered to add the bass and gain switches and update it to the newest version for free. I was pretty blown away by that.

He got it done the same day he received it, dropped it right back in the mail and here we are. I'm in love with what this thing does to my 2203x. I always had to double boost and fight a ton of noise and compression, or figure out how to keep the low end in my signal with the 2203x to get it to the gain level I was wanting. This eliminates that, and gets the amp to a point where all I need is a single boost out front, like all my other amps, to get the amp where I want it.

On the playback, I'm not sure what happened. I may have bumped the mic or cab, but the in the room sound was glorious. What the mic picked up seems to be on the super thick and slightly muddy side. It also sounds a good bit gainier than it did in the room. Seems really odd, but with the way I do my videos, a reshoot was just not in the picture. Some guys seem to be really enjoying it but I like things a bit tighter and brighter is all.

Also, David let me announce he will be doing an EVO model, which is now on a small PCB, which drives cost and production time down. He will be able to mae more of these and sell them at a lower cost, so I think they will become pretty popular once he rolls them out. He is sending me one to demo this month,

Anyways, let me know your thoughts on what you're hearing. I learned about this Mod from Rig Talk in the first place, curious to see if any of you fellas have one or how you think it sounds.

Nice! I had a few emails with them a while back when they were doing the run for the Lynch inspired V2. I actually thought the original is more to my liking but I was hoping for a "tight switch" which I think could only happen IF they went to a PCB. Nice to know they have gone that route to give themselves more options for tone sculpting. It is hard to decide with this unit, I think it is hit or miss with Marshalls dependent on what the stock amp sounds like and whether or not it is heavy on the bass to start with. Yours sounds good.

PS - I still love that guitar. What model is it exactly? Me Likey mucho. Now play me some Scorpions!!

So, the bass switch he added to mine that will also be on the EVO gives you the option to tighten the bass! That's how I had it set here. It's definitely tight with that switch.

The guitar is just a 91 Gibson Explorer. It's a damn good one, well broken in before I got to it, and it feels great to play.

smart man, I think he received that suggestion from a lot of people. Rather than adding bass, you also need the option to tighten it.

I will wait for that guitar to end back in the classifieds ;) ... there is no "forever" for anything on this forum, we all know that!

Killer!! I'm still curious about whether one of these would be compatible with my (Fryette) Sound City Master Lead 50 but I know nothing of it's circuit design to know if it uses a cathode follower or whatever

I had one, cool piece of gear especially for those who hate pedals and want more ‘tube gain’. I felt though that I could get more of what I wanted with 2 boosts out front of my 2203. So I sold it. It needs a boost in front to tighten, as it was pretty tubby sounding without.

David is super knowledgeable and responsive, shoot him a message on the Legendary Tones facebook page and I'm sure he'll answer quickly.

Did you have the older one without the bass switch? Before he updated mine (for free) it was a little on the tubby side as well, but the bass switch tightened it nicely, and a boost out front, like I run all my amps, only further enhanced the quickness of the low end response. In it's current form, it's a great piece of kit, and David listens to his customers.

I did ask him on there months ago but he said he'd need to see a schematic to be sure....and being that it's Fryette-built the chances of me getting a schematic are probably non-existent

So what would actually happen if you install one of these in an incompatible amp? Anyone know?

I felt it was a little tubby as well...but it has the sound I’m looking for. That’s why I preferred the Cameron version which is tighter, but bigger sounding (which we all know will never come to production).

I’d love to try the updated LT Hot Mod.

Well that just about sinks the Cameron mod in production eh? If you are saying it then we will never see it! I emailed myself to be put on the list for the new run of these in 2021. A bass cut switch or tight switch is def. what this needed to take it to the next level.

No I had the updated version. Cool piece of gear, definitely. I just preferred the double boost of my pedals overall

This is pretty cool. Just learned about this by seeing the stltones Lasse pack. Would love to try one but it's a shame it only works with some amps.

Has he finished the pcb version? Will that also be only for amps which use a cathode follower?

I’m still tinkering with a few custom versions. So far the one with the pot is good. It’s different from the Lynch version too.
