I bought this RG3770Z from San Ash’s Reverb store and upon receiving it, I noticed the serial number looks strange. It seems to be written in silver pen as opposed to stamped and it has the model number written on it, as well. The made in Japan stamp and the titanium reinforced neck sticker are also missing. I’ve researched as best I can and haven’t been able to find another 2010 rg prestige that looks like this. Is this normal or should I send this one back? It’s already apparent that it doesn’t have the correct DiMarzio ToneZone/etc pickups.

Have you guys seen anything like this before?

Odd, indeed. Obviously wrong pickups. But, that model is an RG3770ZDSP, (Dark Space is the finish).

Odd.. I've personally never seen serial and model printed on like that. As anal as I am, I'd return it. Just the non-factory pickups would give me heartburn. "Dimarzio Designed" pickups rank right up there with "Duncan Designed", which suck, IMO.

Did it not have pics when you bought it? What kinda money did you pay?

I don't know a lot about Ibanezs even though I want another one since selling my last one several years back, but as odd as it is it might be legit..the brown stripes on back of head stock and correct Gotoh tuners..thats a hard one to answer..figured Tone Zone and Air Norton pickups..I like it though !

It had pictures, but not a clear one of the serial, but the rest, aside from the pickups appeared to be correct so I didn’t think anything was amiss. I paid $900 for it, which seems to be right in the middle to high side of what they’re going for now. The pickups definitely do suck.

I'd return it - there's enough odd about it that it will likely always bother you, plus it'd make it a tough sell..

Weird. The trem is Ibanez. The body seems right. The neck quality looks right (the maple looks quarter sawn from what I can see). But that serial is weird.

If you like it, I would pop the neck off and see if anything is written on the heel.

The wrong pickups would have lowered the value, initially. And anyone with half a brain, (at SamAsh), would have waved a yellow flag at the serial number when they took it in, (or, they did, and paid $200 for it!)

At the end of the day, you overpaid, big-time, and, the serial number is a major issue. Nobody will buy it, should you decide to sell it. SEND IT BACK. DON'T QUESTION IT!

Lesson learned: NEVER buy a used guitar without seeing a valid serial number, (even if they partially cover it, for fear of copy). Just a pic of the back of the headstock, atleast.

Send a pic to Ibanez Customer Service - see what they say.. If you're hell-bent on keeping it, I'd hit up Sam Ash for some cash back. $900 is way up on the high-end, and that would be mint, with the correct pickups, and serial number that's unmolested! I'd say they screwed you!

Yeah, it definitely felt like I got reamed when I pulled it out of the case and saw that serial. I’m definitely shipping this one back. Thanks, guys.

THat is not the correct print for an Ibby serial number. I’ve had so many over the last 30 years. Pass.
