hey guys,
ok.. So I've been wanting to put funds toward a Gibson Lespaul... and I really like both of the LP Classic and the LP Custom. They both play great and sound awsome.

Only thing.. what are the differences between the 2? other than the price tag ofcourse :D.

I know the pickups are different on both, Binding and the fretboard inlays. Anything else?

Thanks

for me I thought the classic felt cheap. I think its because they have some weight release thing going on. But see thats the whole point in a Lespaul to me. If it isn't heavey it just does'nt feel natural to me. They are both good guitars. I just think the custom felt more solid and worth the money, but you can't beat the 500T that comes in the classic.

I have both,
the customs neck is a bit rounder, chunkier if you will,
the classic is a 60s profile
the custom has a very beefy big tone with the neck pup, the bridge is great to rythem and picked parts.
the classic has a bit of a harder sound to the neck, but the bridge position screams.
classic is a bit lighter, but that is ok in my book, especially after three sets.

play both, make up your own mind, if you cant decide, save up the money to grab both. but I would say this, no two are ever the same, you may play a ton of customs before you find "the one", same for the classics.

good luck

Gibson Les paul+Marshall tube amp=tone heaven

Thanks guys..

I do recall the neck on the Classic being a little thinner.. almost easier to solo on it. Never played a Custom. When I see the price tag on one, it makes me not want to touch it just incase something hits it.

Maybe I'll have to check a Custom sometime.

Can't go wrong with either. I love my '94 Classic Premium Plus, and '00 Standard.

Classics have the thinner '60's neck, Rosewood fretboard and hot ceramic pickups. The best years IMO are '90-'94. They were just about custom shop instruments in those years. Better woods, rediculous tops, etc... After that, they went to those ugly green inlays, and saved alot of the better woods for the custom shop.

Customs have the fatter '50's neck, Ebony fretboard, and medium Alnico pickups. Best years IMO are '54-'59, '68, '69 and then 1990-today. I would avoid the '70's and '80s years. Lots of pancake/multiple piece bodies and tops here.

oh.. another questions.. anyone tried the Gibson Lespaul Classic Custom?

is that somekind of "combo" of both guitars combined in 1?

Thats what I have. I love it, but I dont need it which is why I am trying to sell it ;) . But its an awesome guitar.

Don't Customs have maple necks? Or was that only for a few years?
