The demo's make it sound decent, but I wonder how much EQ work was done.

I've been looking into the Suhr Reactive Load a lot since my last post regarding the Cab Clone, but this thing caught my eye and it's tempting because of the ability to play quietly with headphones as well as have multiple cab voicing options AND the ability to bypass those and use a cab sim in my DAW if I wanted to. I can get one new for a good deal but before I pull the trigger, I wanted to see if anyone had one yet and liked it. I can spend the money and just do the Suhr if it's really that much of a better option, I just thought the features of the RockRec had more appeal for me. If they are junk though, then they are junk.

Discuss... I'll be searching in the mean time. Thanks

Talked to my Sales Reps and I can get Suhr for $359 shipped and RockRec for $350 shipped. So price isn't a matter now.

Which one is best. HELP! Thanks!

I read that thread, I've been reading it all week. There's not a word that mentions the Rivera Mini RockRec that I can see, only talk about the two previous Rockcrushers which are both Reactive Loads units. The Mini RockRec is a Reactive Network. Now, I am new to this and Paul Rivera doesn't really do a great job of explaining the different in my eyes, but there seems to be a difference there of some sort, am I wrong.

The Mini RockRec only started shipping at the end of July. There is very limited review information online that I can find and even fewer videos. I was hoping MAYBE someone here had one.

The Reactive Load by Suhr is tried and true. Everyone knows it's a bad ass piece of gear. The features of the new RockRec really have me battling with which to get now though.

Well, what's your main goal: to play quietly, or record? If it's to mainly play quietly, go with the Mini.

Rivera (at least in my experience) doesn't make junk, so I don't think you'd be dissatisfied.

I saw this video recently

And in the comments the guy says this

"the one thing I will say about the headphones is that you cannot use the speaker emulation with it. I was pretty disappointed about that. All that they did was to add a lowpass filter to the headphones so that the sound isn't unbearable. It's the one major disappointment with it. I've been considering buying a Torpedo C.A.B. to put after the Mini RockRec so that I can hear the amp via headphones using Impulse Responses while playing silently."

So the headphone part seems kinda shitty if this is true. I went with a Suhr RL last year based off of Pete Thorn's advice... that guy knows his shit

Yeah, This is one of the couple things I saw. I have a hard time taking one person's opinion as the rule. Maybe his ears just didn't like it. I don't expect the headphone output to sound like you're listening to a big amp in a big room. You aren't physically moving enough air to get a real sound even with the simulation. I was however, hoping the headphones could be used to dial in a close sound. I am still curious if anyone here uses one but it seems as if nobody does which is disappointing.

Pete Thorn does definitely know his shit, I am leaning towards the Suhr more and more but I can't afford to make a "bad" purchase right now. Truth be told, I shouldn't even spend this money right now.

All of this will be for naught if I can't figure out how to load OwnHammer and Rosen Digital IR's into ProTools 10. Driving me up a wall. I follow all the tutorials I can find and nothing works. Maybe I'll just go back to WOS

Try using NADIR http://www.igniteamps.com/en/audio-plug-ins

I'm not a protools guy but in Reaper I would go track/insert virtual instrument to new track/ then click the VST (ex NADIR) then when that opens open/load the IR/OwnHammer/Rosen Digital/ wav file. Also on the new track I would have to make sure I have it using the right input on my interface/soundcard. I hope that makes sense.

I appreciate that... It's sad, been playing guitar over 25 years and this is my first attempt recording. Pathetic NOOB fail

Thanks!

Ended up picking up a RockCrusher I found, not the Mini RockRec. It was less expensive and I can use the attenuation as well for live recording. $300 shipped I think was a good buy on that. Ebay ftw

I was going to say.... the mini limits you. For one you can use IR's and some cab emulation... but what if it sucks? What if you don't like it. With a regular rockcrusher you have a really gooad attenuator and a line out which you can use for the cab IR's. I have heard that it is a tad dark or flat sounding compaired to Two Notes or Suhr but with some EQ'ing it might work for you. Good choice.

Unfortunately like I've said before, I have commitments outside of music that are a large financial drain. Therefore, I can't go dump huge bucks on the nicest gear out there like I use to. I'm lucky to have my Spalwn and Orange 4x12 at this point. I sold almost everything else. The attenuation is what sold me on the Rockcrusher instantly when I saw it for sale. Even if the Line out is dark or flat, that's nothing an EQ can't help out. And with good cab sims, it won't be as bad either.
