LXP-1 and LXP-5 units and are they worth it for $225 or one for $135?

they are great sounding units but they are limited. I saw a guy play a show with just a jazz guitar and an lxp-5 and his sound was killer!

I think they are cool units for a home studio or something like that, but not really what I'd suggest for a guitar rig.

Like a drop and insert type thing, having the signal leave and have it go through the rack and back into your recording software?

I generally dont put reverbs on inserts. I'll use an aux send from the computers mixer out of the hardware, and then use an aux input to return the reverb. That way you can send any tracks you want out to it via the same send. That way you have a dry track and you can blend how wet it is via the aux return track, and of course how much you send into it as you may not want all your tracks as wet. Make sense?

I know some guys that love 'em. Kimock is one of them. I freakin' hate that box with a passion.

Don't most of the Lexicon stuff have "dropouts" when changing patches? For that reason alone, I'd never consider one for a guitar rig. Now recording is another thing.

I had one of the cheaper Lexicon units (newer than these, though) and it sounded awesome.

yup the lexicon boxes are whores to use live because of the lagtime between patches. I have a lexicon PCM80 and it feels like a year and a day passes when trying to switch between presets. that said, the lexicon boxes like the ones Scott is talking about work great in a studio and if you are going to use it live, they work best as a single effect that can be switched in and out of the signal. I would not count on them for midi switching.

Yes it does, thanks Dan!

That is what I was leaning towards, having it patched into the EMU 1820 and using aux sends like Dan stated.

FWIW, why not use the efx in the 1820 for that?

You know the reason? Because I heard from some they were not that good but I do like them. Dumb reason too.

Thanks Ed, I need to work with what I have.

i have the lxp-5... but only use it for nylon classical and little compressor playing at low volumes. works fine with that, but I wouldn't dare put that in my big rig signal chain. My buddy has the old PCM41 and 42...i think those older ones sound better for some reason, then again I'm an echoplex advocate for life.

if you're gonna buy both you might consider the MX200, you can get 'em for under $199, if you haggle at a store.
might give you more flexibility.

Lexicon verbs are soooo smooth. I like that. Wouldn't use them on stage though as previously mentioned, but inside a recording rack: excellent for the money.

I recently heard the line 6 verb zilla pedal and thought it sounded amazing..that would be a nice little stage verb..

The LXP-1 sounds good on guitar but is not worth more than $150. I'd haggle both for $300 as they look to be in good shape. They're also very usable in the studio, very warm effect boxes. You need the Lex MRC remote or some kind of sysex computer program to access all the internal parameters. You can use about only 10% of the box from the front panel.

He already said both were 225.00. I wouldn't haggle upwards!!

225.00 for both is about going rate or a little under if they're in good shape. I have both and they sound great. Your advice about the controller is RIGHT ON, but he can still get plenty of tweaks from the front panel. . I WILL WARN YOU THOUGH , that they both use different power supplies if I remember right and they cost 20-25.00 each, so make sure they come with them, or you're adding that on

ERIC

I have the MX200 and love it. Has got all the (insert) effects I need, awesome reverbs, lush delays, nice chorus, dbx compressor, for 200$

Also (and this is rare) it sounds neutral and dynamic on bypass. It's simple and doesn't do many things, but it's a nice package, if you don't change patches during songs (I don't).

Haha OK I read too quickly, I thought it was $225 for the LXP1 alone. It's a good price then. I'd say grab the things !! :)

Thanks for the insight guys but I have decided to pass on these and use what I have right now :)
