Major Feeler...
This amp started it's life as a mid-eighties (not sure of year) split channel 50watt combo (4212). Mike Lickliter gutted it and rebuilt it using one of the original Drake's and added Mercury iron, as well, adding a gain stage. The clean channel is ok, but the gain channel is where it's at. So brutal and tight - sick Marshall kerrang. The great thing about this amp is that you can roll back your volume pot and it'll clean up a bit. This amp is a beast. I rarely get to crank the master volume on this, but when I do, holy crap is it loud. Currently, it's loaded w/Tung-Sol 6550's and Chinese 8th gen. pre's (5-12ax7's). Also, I had Dave Friedman install a Metro Zero-Loss FX Loop in it about two years back ago.
About two years ago, I had a dove-tail head box made for it with the thought of tolexing it myself, but I kind of liked the raw wood so I installed a handle I had lying around that I got from Kyle Rhodes. I still have the 2x12 combo chassis for it. It's seen some use and has some nicks in the tolex here and there, but the grill cloth, Marshall logo, and plastic corners are all in good shape. And, from a short distance away looks pretty good (kinda reminds me of an old girlfriend). For $1700 I'd load the Celestion A&V Type drivers I have here in the classifieds into the combo chassis with the amp and ship it that way, too, were one so inclined.
I've used this as my main tracking amp for the last few years, as well as some gigs, and it's been a consistent performing, great sounding animal. I've never EVER had a problem with it. It's not spotless, but it's hand-built and sounds killer. I will also include a latching footswitch as well as include the shipping in the sale price.
$1,300 for the amp in head box, ppl'd to the lower 48
$1,700 for the amp in the combo chassis w/Celestions
ANY questions or more pics needed, please let me know, I'm happy to oblige.
