Can egnater make a lighter tourmaster Head? I don't need all the power grid stuff and maybe 50 watts too. I love the four channels just to heavy.

I doubt that they will be redesigning the Tourmaster any time soon, but you can use the power grid to set it down to 50 watts. Don't underestimate that power grid. It's a subtle effect but very useful.

your right, I'm just dreamin  egnater seems to have a lot going on right now. no time to redo anything.

You might like the Renegade- sort of like a stripped down Tourmaster. Missing some things from the Tourmaster, but adds some nice features. I just swapped out my Tourmaster combo for the Renegade 212. Nice! 65 watts, 2 channels- and 30 pounds lighter!

The Tourmaster is really a great, versatile head. But it's way too dang heavy.

Len is right, if you haven't given the Renegade a whirl yet, you might try that out. It doesn't have 4 channels, but it does weigh A LOT less than the Tourmaster.

True, it's much lighter, and the Renegade is a very repectable head.

But it doesn't have the higher gain that you can get from the Tourmaster. Plus the TM has a bunch more tonal options, even on the clean settings.

True, but the Renegade has tube mixing and the tight/bright switches. You can get similar sounds out of it.

The tube mix effect is limited. That's because you still have the same EQ, regardless of the tubes. An amp's tone stack is much more important to its tone than the tubes in it are.

I've owned both of these amps, at the same time. The Tourmaster has much more tonal variety. The Renegade can't get anywhere near the clear, heavy distortion of the TM. Plus, the TM's contour knobs and power grid offer up so many other tonal options. It's really a very versatile, great amp.

But it'll kill your back to carry it any distance.

This is not meant to slight the Renegade at all. The Renegade is a fine amp, with some great tones in it. But it's no Tourmaster, imo.

I basically agree. I had a Tourmaster for years and loved it. I never used channel 4 on it all that much so the really heavy distortion wasn't all that important to me. The power grid was great- I did like that better then the Renegade's switch. Still, the Renegade has a sweet clear tone that I enjoy, the reverb is better IMO as is the line out.

Agreed. The Renegade clean channel is a great 60s Bassman sound.

I use the tube mix to accentuate or back off the qualities of a guitar. The 335 can get a smoky jazz tone on the 6L6 side. The strat- I can soften it up with the 6L6's or turn it into an ice pick with the EL34's. Haven't used the Les Paul with the Renegade too much yet. Have to play tonight- might take it out for spin and see what happens. I do miss that power grid, though.

My favorite channel on the Tourmaster was channel two. I would put the gain up about 2 o'clock and it just nailed that 50's rock and roll/R & B sound that my 335 loves! To my ears, the Renegade can do that tone and the Rebel couldn't. With the four channels it was nice to just have it available at the click of a footswitch rather then tweaking the knobs. But you can't have everything, and sometimes you just need a change.

my favorite settings on my TM are using channel 3 for the higher gain stuff, and ch4 for the medium/lower gain/volume knob approach.

channel 3 in this amp is SO good sounding. i really miss my amp. i gotta get that power transformer out of there ASAP. i think almost 2 months of it sitting, the caps should be discharged, i Hope!

See if there is a lighter/quieter power transformer that you can use. Would probably help out with the weight and the noisy line out.

I had the renegade (very nice amp) just love the idea of the 4 channels on the TM. The tube mix option (on the renegade) is not worth it for me, I'd rather they spend the money and weight, on something else. I think in the begining (tube mix) helped seperate egnater from the pack but, after using it (rebel 20 and renegade) I can live without it. I'd rather not have to run two extra tubes. Best is the fact that you can run different power tubes in egnater amps. A low powered, light weight, Tourmaster is the way to go IMHO. Who needs 100watts anymore? Guys like me, are playing little bars (no micing or sound man) 50 watts is more then enough and recently the tweaker (15 watts) has been enough. If your playing the big clubs they mic you you have a sound man, you don't need 100 watts IMHO. I'm old and love the old big stacks but, it's stupid at this point. IMHO
