I bought my combo used, still with the stock valves. I found myself much more attached to the EL84 tubes than the 6V6, which just seemed characterless. Of course I don't know how the stock valves were sounding when the rig was brand new.
The JJ Tesla have more life, more presence - making the 6V6 bank of tubes now my preference for clean sounds.
The JJ 6V6s are unusual. Larger than other bottles, some call them halfway 6L6 sounding. Had I not liked these, Tung Sol were next in line to buy. I went JJ as I came across a great deal on a matched pair, and will certainly stick with them for now.
