I just wanted to say I am very impressed with the lead tones of the Herbert. I have had amps that had good rhythm tones and the lead tones were not stellar and the reverse of this. I am amazed at the amount of tweaking I have done on this amp in the last 3 days and the number of tones I am getting from that tweaking.

just wait...your tweeking monster hasnt grabbed hold yet. = )

I just picked up a Herbert myself, how are you running channel 3 for liquid leads? Just curious. I find I like the amp better with significant mids added to channel 2 & 3, seems to be more classic, fatter & more body to the notes and less scooped. What are you finding?

My favorite part about my Diezel is that no matter where the dials are set it always sounds good.

Ican do anything with them and its still a usable tone.

Like every other Diezel, when you get one model you always want a second for the library of tones you get.
I hope Peter someday makes a Herbert with Midi switchable motorized pots and twenty storable presets !!!!!

I think the "Liquid" is on both channel 2 and 3 with the mid's around 11:00-12:00, Bass at 1:00 and the Treble
between 9:00-11:00. Tweak the presence to your liking to compensate for the lower treble frequencies and tighten the signal up a bit.
With the mid-cut On and set from off/7:00 to 9:00 will be very smooth. Remeber, Ch. 3 has a bit more sizzle and some of it cannot be dialed out,
but it cuts like a 1000 pound Samurai Sword.

For once.. AGREED on the settings! Everyone seems to be cranking their treble for some reason. To me, anything past 11:00 is harsh. I keep my lead tone (Ch 3) treble at 9:00. Prescence to compensate for the cut treble (definitely a different but better in my opinion high end frequency) also agreed!
Bass depending on the room. I used to keep it at 1:00 also, but now more on the 12:00 range due to the fact that sometimes it makes faster notes seem muddy. Its a trade off because it also fattens up the tone for single note bends and stuff like that. But for fast runs that go smoothly, id even dare keep the bass at 11:00.
Herbert is VERY sensitive to any and ALL changes in the eq. My mids always change depending HIGHLY on the room im playing in. Sometimes boosting them to 2:00, and other times cutting them to 11:30. Im a huge fan of the liquid lead tone.
I heard a long time ago that boosting the channel volume would yeild more compression and since then i have been keeping channel volumes at 2:30. Hope this is true..
Anyways, my 2 cents..

Those settings are very close to mine, the treble is not ever past 11oclock. I do boost my mids up quite a bit more than that though for lead tones on channel 3 and leave the mid cut totally off or on and intensity barely moved to the on position. That is where i am getting my liquid lead type tone. I am able to sweep pick and hammer off like it is butter with the settings like this. The Wizard when I tried this made it very difficult IMHO. Settings are great to share, but guitars, pickups and speakers make such a difference that each of our settings will sound totally different as well as the room(s) we play at/in.

Hope that all made some sense.

Oh yea..! BIGTIME! Especially speakers. I think thats one thing i always overlooked. I knew they made some difference, but the difference is actually night and day to me now.

..now i just have to find the right guitar for me... :aww: It seems sooo hard..

Good luck on the guitar. I finally really settled in on the Suhr Standards. They are so solid feeling to me.

I am actually listening to your myspace stuff right now. Loving it, great songs and good guitar.

Thanks man. Glad you dig it
I really need to try out a Suhr. They are just so hard to come by... :aww:

For more compression I use two BB Preamps set differently. One has the Volume and Gain at noon and the other has the Volume maxed and the gain at 0.
On the first one I have the Treble on the BB at 9:00, Bass at 12:00 and the second one is set flat with both at noon. They work perfectly for tweaking Ch. 1,
Ch. 2 -, Ch. 2 and even Ch. 3 for compression and a different attack on the lower frequencies. It's twelve channels of tonal heaven. No boost X3, Boost X3 and Mid Cut Boost X3 and Mid Cut off Boost X3.

That and or a Vigier

I second the choice for a Vigier. It will be my next guitar purchase.
You might also think about an XOX Handle guitar. I have had one for a year now, and every musician that hears it, loves the tone.
It is extremely woody and organic sounding. Not the least bit synthetic at all. I love everything about it, and have ordered a second one with some extra wiring changes.
Here is a site with 2 vids and in-depth reviews.

Here is the XOX Handle homesite:

I liked mine so much that I sold every wood guitar I owned. I have always desired a Vigier, so I promised my self that I would have one as an alternate choice for the carbon fiber Handle.
I love European gear!

But man, they ain't cheap!! Then again, what's this with custom made Olson and Breedloves - and they're acoustic man!! Gotta take out a second mortgage for those puppies!! I'm into the Suhr's, simply for their beauty and quality. But I don't own one - I own a few Les Pauls and a couple ESP's amongst others, and at the end of the day, They all play exactly how I want them to. I don't need to look any further...and unless I can play 8+ guitars at once, I think I'm sitting pretty fine right now.

Peace,
V.

The Breedlove customs are slammin guitars. They are no more expensive than Suhrs (except for the Mark 1), especially if you find the right dealer.
