...are making me keep my 20thA XTC for good!!

Hard to believe I was sizing this beauty up a day or so ago wondering if it was going to go on the chopping block along with the rest of my bigger rigs due to my happiness and newfound love in the Mak4/Fryette rig. Well, new KT77's, as well, brand new TAD 12AX7Cs throughout, she's cleaned up, and man, does this sound GOOD!!!! Hard to believe the JJ's in there made me so happy to start with!!!! I'll say this - the amp with its stock tubes is - still - a f'n masterpiece. Yes, I have a dream rig (for me) in the Mak4/Ultra/Fryette deal; yes I have Diezel ear candy in da hizzy; yes I have boutiquers; but the 20thA with Gold Lion KT77's is - as hard as it is to believe or fathom (even for me sitting in front of it with the volume at noon, just going apeshit in my session space) - BETTER!!!!

I guess I'm no longer a shitstain, eh Gary :gethim:

Peeps. These tubes ROCK!!!

Back to playing, DAMN this rig kicks ass :rawk:

And yes - THANK YOU GARY - for your continuing support (...uh, pestering and prodding, ahem) in assisting me in my decision to get these tubes for my wonderful incredible outrageously toneful 20thA.

PEACE!!!

Damn been vacillating between these and the el34 in my twin jet.

I had a TJ, I actually really liked the stock tubes it came with - what are they, 88's???? I found them to be really well suited to that amp, I would have kept that amp, but I started finding it more and more limited to what I wanted to do with it. I miss it though. It was a raunchy firebreathing beast that thing!!

KT77's - WOW!!!!! In the 20thA XTC, way nicer swirl in the mids and highs, nicer bottom end, and the low end is bigger - like, thunderously bigger but holds tight...no flub, no mud.

BEST tube choice I could have imagined, seriously - I am very impressed!!

V.

PS - SPAM NOTICE: For sale, 6 brand new JJECC830S preamps, matched quad of JJ EL34's (used with a ton of life in them), tons of Chinese A's and B's, some Ruby HG+, and a host of others... I rifled through my storage area in the garage, must have about 40 tubes worth of stuff down there!! Some brand spanking, some slightly used - hit me up if you're looking for anything :D

FIVE HOURS TO THE MINUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's how long these puppies have been in my 20thA, and that's how long the amp's been on for. And of those 5 hours, I'd say 4 have been played!!

Jaaaaaaayzeus man, talk about a perfect tube for this head!! Modern/Vintage, Old/New, A/AB, Boost ON/OFF - incredible. The CLEAN is a touch brighter now and has that sparkle to it now. Not snow white and the seven f'n dwarves pristine vox'y fender'y "it's crystallizing my house it's so shimmery" clean with the Glad Man jumping out from behind the sofa with an icicle dildo ready to pooch you, but damn well better than it was :student:

Blue kicks all kinds of ass, just like it did before, but with a better deep bass response now. Real nice. And there's more to the upper mids now too, they're not just the EQ of the V30's, there's some actual 'sonic substance' there now. Interesting.

Red? Damn!! More BETTER!!

That's it that's all, these tubes are getting a serious "HELLO KITTY" from yours truly... Been in for actually almost 6 hours cuz I wanked for 1hr after installing them before posting my first impression.

Stevie, get yerseff another 20thA EL34 model and slap some 77's into. I think your bass problem would have been sorted out

Gary. For you? Man hugs

Peace Y'All,
Mojo :rawk:

Dammit. I need to buy more stuff??

Definitely better than the JJs, eh? Might have to try them, but the added bass puts me off a little.

The bass is more prevalent - in yer face - but punchy!! It's not flubby WHATSOEVER, and seems to maintain up to noon on the MV. Pretty damn sweet if you ask me. But the extra oooomph it adds to the mids and upper mids, really, REALLY nice. I'm impressed. That's all I can say - really, really impressed.

Ya, the JJ's are packed and ready for anyone who wants 'em. See ya JJ's :salute:

Mo

Cool!!! Can the 101B be fitted with KT77's? I guess so since they are the natural replacements for EL34... But just double checking...

Not sure if the voicing of the 101b would benefit as much as the 20thA has with the KT77's, I haven't tried, nor do I have any experience with these bottles outside of the 20thA.

They ain't cheap, so I'd hate to see them wasted in a head not suitable to them :dunno:
