Listen To This Demo. Is it Digital or Tube?

It's always a hard kind of question... :)

It depends on too many parameters...

If it's TUbe, i'll say the mic is badly put in front of the speaker; and there is too much gain (kind of muddy sound sometimes)
I'd say that a good tube amp badly miked sound like a digital unit :)

Anyway, I'm curious to know it really is.

THanks black_wizards!

Let's get a few more to listen before we let the "Cat Out Of The Bag!"

Sounds digital to me.

If it's a tube amp, I really don't like the way it sounds.

So what don't you like about the sound?

Maybe I can "Tweak" it (Oops) :scared:

Hmmmm.

The distortion sounds like a fuzzbox rather than tube distortion. It sounds like it's not being too responsive to touch dynamics. Maybe it's a matter of having too much gain dialed in for the playing style.

It's also not particularly full-range - the low-mid is absent, and it makes it sound like a cheap solid-state amp.

Its digital I think. I can recollect hearing this type of tone from my "pedals-only" rig that I used to play in a band. its got to do with the high-end. It sort of sounds raspy.

Both?

The cleans seem to be warmish, which would make me lean towards it being a good tube (or analog tube emulation), but the overdrive seems very flat and lifeless. Maybe like a slave out of a tube amp direct in to a recorder. :dunno:

It reminds me of a solidstate amp I once owned. There doesn't seem to be any real authentic crunch to it.

I did a piss poor job of taking an impulse response of my Mod50 power section with my Mod 2x12 this weekend, and this sounds kind of like that, but better than my results, so that's my guess. An IR of a tube power section/speaker.
:dunno:

You might be right on. I was actually playing through Waves GTR3. I believe they used impulses in their technology.

I've run my M4 through the speaker sim in Amplitube 2 with pretty good results, but I still think I'm better at mic'ing a cabinet than they are at modeling one.  Just plain sounds more natural/responsive with actual air moving to generate the tone. Amp sim plugins are really handy for laying down quick tracks though.
