ok, I'm getting a little mad..... my clips are not sounding as great as I want to, and honestly.... I think the cab is the reason, let me explain why:

Interface: I'm using a Metric Halo ULN-2, it's one of the best out there, and it's pretty much "professional'

Cables: I just bought new cordial cables (for instruments, mic, monitors)

Amp: the Vh4 still need to be "checked"..... gotta play with the tubes and all to see if it's at it's max. but the Einstein is running wild....and sounds great. Same with Little Joe.

Mic: I'm using a Shure SM57

Settings: I'm using normal settings, nothing too weird

and my hi-gain clips are not that great....sound harsh.....

listen to this clip.....

What stands out to me is the boom in the bottom end. Too much bass caused the drive to sound fizzy. This is a sure sign of too much bass. Dial the bass and/or depth down untill the boominess dissapears, then turn the mids up for some clarity. Even turn down the gain a little.

Please show me a pic of your mic placement and what type of speaker. I think you might have your mic too far off center, sounds like your getting alot of the edge of the speaker cone. If you're using V30 you need to get some of the dust cap area in there, they have such a small dust cap that your presence and high-mids are in a very small beam and when close micing mic placement is crucial for them in particular. Use a flashlight so you can see the speaker easier and get it on the edge of the dust cap either straight on or off axis(angled toward the cone surface).

75% Mic placement, not amp, not cab - 25% from the EMGs too.

You are trying to record 100wt amp at the level of a 5wt amp. What do you expect?

I'll play with my mic placement way more then, and I'll try the Edwards Goldtop with a new Dimarzio soapbar I got.

Regarding volume, it's true, if it were cranked it'd sound way better, but I refuse to believe it won't sound good if it's low..... I've recorded my Einstein at lower volumes and sound good, same with Little Joe (it's 20 watt but VERY loud)

I know it can be done.

at 1:20/21 and 1:24 on the palm muted single note section sounds like the speakers are farting... you mean that?

a tad too gainy for me. yea the amp will sound the same but better when you push it. Nothing like the power of a Diezel!
