was looking into the buz feiten bone nuts for intonation perfection on the neck with locking tuners, but i have never owned a guitar with locking tuners before versus locking nuts

im hard on floyd rose's and strings with bends and such. would love to hear what anyone has to say on locking tuners vs locking nuts

appreciate any help :)

also, to bone nuts ever need to be replaced with the use of a floyd rose increasing/decreasing tension?

just up front- i hate floyds and don't own any guitars with them installed, but my two main guitars have just recently been upgraded with Sperzel locking tuners. easiest string change you'll ever do and on top of that absolutely the most stable my tuning has ever been. sounds like hype, but I'm sold on locking tuners.

the guitar I ordered which should be here anytime now has Sperzel locking tuners on it. Good to hear that you like yours. I'll post when I get my NGD!

My Fender USA DLX has Sperzels and I luv'm. I also hace the roller nut system.

so bone nuts/brass nuts are a no go on floating trems with nut life?

Floyd Bridge.......Locking nut........

yeah i know, thats what i have been using, but it seems not many people stray away and go with different material nuts with locking tuners instead, or they cant take abuse which i would have thought they would just as much as locking nuts :dunno: :(

i may take a gamble, say fuck it, and go with locking tuners instead anyway. perfect guitar intonation is pretty cool and would almost be worth it. nothing like open chords that are slightly out of tune - mix that with old strings and you've got a mix that could drive you crazy

seems to me like using a locking nut and locking tuners would be a bit over kill....now perhaps unlocking the nut and just locking the tuners, I dunno might work?

Why would you want chords that are slightly out of tune? :dunno:

Old Strings.........yes!
OUt of tune.......

yeah the topic title is "versus" - definately agree both is overkill and pointless.

Well, locking nut solves the problem of the excess amount of string (string length) between the nut and the tuners. And regardless of your tuners locking, and regardless of the nut being super slick or brass or graphite or whatever, the deal is - the tension difference between the length from the bridge to the nut and the tension between the nut and the tuners will ALWAYS be different unless you lock the strings down AT the nut (most certainly when using a trem like the Floyd). So regardless of the tuners being locked, the tension over the nut and on either side of the nut will be different, therefore creating tuning issues, pings, pangs, pops, and so forth. AND - it will wear the shit outta yer nut... Especially a graghtech nut.

Lock the nut, the tuners are redundant. Just sayin'....

every electric guitar on planet earth is slightly out of tune with open chords - even with the intonation set correctly.

i can notice the difference and it drives me up the fucking wall.

i thought about treating myself to a buz feiten nut which changes the sharp/flatness of the strings that are slightly out of intonation at the nut, and makes open chords and open strings perfectly intonated all the way up the neck.

with the introduction to locking tuners which guys back in the 80's didnt have, im just wondering why no one has moved towards locking tuners and better nut materials now. i have no clue? :dunno:

I'm a bit confused. Is there a reason your guitar cannot have both? They make floyd rose nuts with the buzz feiten tuning system offsets.

AHHHHHHHHHH

would a non locking nut make a guitar harder to play with unequal spread of tension on the strings?

i didnt know this existed? always saw the feiten system on bone nuts, figured there was a catch 10 on it?

this would be the best most logical solution, going to go google it now. thanks Tom
