I posted this on MTS Grailtone, but for lack of responses, figured I would bring the post over here.

So ive mainly spent my time nextdoor at theboogieboard, and Ive owned many many boogie amps, including many bogners, soldano stuff, etc, and many many other amps, and since then I have gone with an all rackmount setup. I am currently looking to replace a mesa triaxis and I was suggestion on hugeracksinc to look into the M4.

Can anyone shed as much knowledge as they can on this unit? Pics/Favourite Modules/Specs/Videos/Pricing/ etc would all be fantastic, or even just share what you know and your general feelings about the m4. What power amp to pair it with, etc.

EDIT: A couple other questions:

-Can the m4 use phantom power to power a footswitch?
-I use a Ground Control Pro. I would prefer to use 10 preset mode, as opposed to 4 presets and 8 CCs. I use several other FX units. What would be the best way to utilize my GCP and the M4? If I used 8 CC / 4 Preset mode, then I suppose I could have the 8 CCs be for channel switching on the M4, but is it possible to have my preset changes change the channel of the M4 as well? Thats one of my main concerns, is that I have no idea how I would set up my M4 with my FX and my GCP.

Thanks very much! Very Happy

As you can see you can do both. I have a bit of a decision to make when mine arrives. I'm currently running the 4 bank method on the GCPro using 3 of the 8 as bypass for each of the racks. I think I'll keep it that way and just setup each bank per song. I have a Korg Triton Rack to control as well.

As for pricing a loaded one will cost $2100. M4 chassis is $500 and modules $400 a pop. Up to your dealer if they'll sell one unloaded. There is no fx loop so factor that into your decision a well. Hope that helps.

hello if you are looking for sounds like a mesa on the Egnater side I use the Erect dual channel and have it dialed in close (better than) my mesa Mk III. SL and SL2 covers all the Marshall amps,JTM Plexi,JCM 800 & 900. T/D Bman nails all the fender amps. COD for Boutique, EG3/4 is suppose to be a darker smooth marshall from Egnaters channel 3 and 4 of the Tol amp. EG5 I am still tweaking but has an 80's sound.Paired with the Randall rt2/50 (switching from 6l6 or el34 tubes with midi) covers it all. click on my myspace under my sig for rack pics.

two days in a row of, "OMG, I can't believe how good this sounds."

I got it 8 months ago.

Outrageous. I was only playing through the SL2 and EG5, BTW.

Actually, I could get away with just the VX module and the SL2.

just unbelievable, and yes it does 5 or 7 pin phantom power.

I have no idea what modules I would get! I would def need the high gain stuff.

Probably an SL2, and ERECT for sure.

But what else? The third would be between the COD or E/G4. I'd probably stay away from the MHG.

I'm not a vox fan, but i have no idea what i would need for my clean module. the T/D?

Blah.

Makes me wanna get two loaded M4s and a switchblade. ;)

Also, quick ?. Is the EG5 the same as the MHG?

EG5 is not an MHG. The EG5 has a lot more mids and high end.

You need

T/D
EG5
Erect
either the EG3/4 or SL2

I thought I needed COD, but I just couldn't get it to sound like my dreams in my head. It just didn't cut it for me. I also don't like the Bman with my own rig. It doesn't shine or sparkle. You really need to be using single coils with the bman to get everything out of it. It was magical in the Mod50 with a suhr strat though. The eg3/4 and sl2 are pretty close.

Wow. No matter what forum I seem to post at, you've been quite the help, guitarslinger :D

So I think I've definitely decided on an M4. I definitely want the Erect, and EG5, from the clips ive heard. I think I also want an EG3/4, but it depends on how close to the SL2 it is. If they aren't too different ill have to decide on which one I prefer. Being mainly a mesa amp player, I've never really been able to get Marshall tones too often, so the SL2 is appealing in that sense. However, the clips I've heard of the EG3/4 seem more "me" ish.

I get *all* my broken up clean tones by playing dirty channels with low gain, or rolling off my guitar's volume. So whats the cleanest module? The clips in the stickied thread make the T/D seem VERY desirable, although, I play a lot of pauls and humbuckers, so I gotta take that into consideration.

T/D is the absolute cleanest module, followed by the Bman, then the Vx.

Thx for the info. Does anyone have any ERECT / EG5 comparison clips? I will probably get both the modules.

Also, I couldnt find any SL or Sl2 clips.. the ones in the stickied thread had dead links.

Thanks!
