Looks to me like the Marshall VM comes with Ruby tubes

I tried a Tung Sol in V2. I found an old one in my tube box. I have a ton of old preamp tubes. Anyways I took out the Marshall EC83 and compared to the other preamp tubes I had. It is identical to the Ruby 12ax7s I have. So I'm thinking thats what the Marshall VMs are shipping with.

I'm pretty sure Ruby doesn't make tubes, right? They just buy, test, and relabel tubes (like Groove Tubes.) So that tube could be a Sovtek, JJ, etc... At least, I think that's right.

Yeah I just went to the Ruby Tubes website. Looks like a lot of their stuff is made in China.

I still have gas for a VM

It's certainly not something I would recommend for modern metal but for classic rock to 80's metal(with a boost) it is a phenominal amp!

Thats pretty much what it would be used for. Black Crowes, Trower, SRV, Montrose, etc.

They make some power tubes or at least have some made especially for them but no pre-amp tubes as far as I know.

I'd say you owe it to yourself to check the VM out. It's got a unique glassy crunch that I've never heard before in an amp.

Rubys are chinese tubes. I've had them in my DSL100 and I thought they were performing very well, a lot better than others I've tried (JJs, Svets). Of course, this is only my opinion but Marshall makes a smart move if they deliver their new amps with Rubys. That reminds me I gotta buy some to put in my Single Recto.
