Loud popping noise when shutting off Rebel 30?

Got my Rebel 30 Head yesterday and immediately paired it up with my Marshall 1936 cabinet. Shortly after I noticed a "burning" smell, which I am assuming was from the amp being new, no other problems noticed and the amp worked fine.

Then when I turned the head off without putting it in standby the speaker made a horrible awful loud popping sound. Is this normal? Should I have put it in standby mode first then shut the power off? I haven't had to do that with other amps with standby, that's why I am asking.

Always turn any tube amp on by putting it into standby first for a few seconds, and then into play. Always shut them down by putting it into standby first, and then powering it down. Make or model doesn't matter- It helps to preserve the tubes.

You blew a tube. UNPLUG THE AMP FROM THE WALL, wait a minute or so (there can be residual electricity in there for a bit) and then take a look at the tubes. If you can visually see which one it is, try just replacing that one. If you have any doubts, replace them all.

Contact Egnater. They will replace bad tubes under warranty for 90 days I think.

It's not really a problem. Tubes are funny things- This could happen with any make, any model. Frankly, I would just replace all of them. Then I would send all of them back to Egnater (talk to someone first!), let them test them, and they will replace at least the bad one, maybe all of them. Of course, ask them to send back to you any tubes that aren't bad.

You should always have spare tubes anyway.

Have you tried powering it up again? It may be nothing. Even though you should use the standby, I never had an amp blow a tube by not using it, but did get a popping noise. I'd be more concerned about the burning smell. I'd contact Nate.

Like they said, for start up.......power on amp, wait a little bit, then take standby off. When powering down, hit standby, then the power switch.

Doubt if you caused any harm. Just fire it back up again and see how it sounds. Then let us know if there is anything wrong.
