Let me start by saying that i absotively love this amp. when i flip from standby to play after about 2 seconds there is a hum
that gets a little louder(like something powering up) and only last for about a second. On some other forums it was suggested that it
might be a bad preamp tube V1 or V2. It works flawlessly and seems to have no other issues. Since John and bruce post here thought i would
ask here.I can just leave the amp on and not use the standby except at start up but this thing is only a few days old and love it to much to have to box
it up and do without it. I did E mail customer service but no answer yet. Man this little head sounds fantastic through the 12 celestion in the 112 cab.

did it come with the ever so lovely egnater labeled sovtek pre amp tubes????

yeah it did. I take it that's not good

Do knob settings have any effect on the noise?
In other words:

Master up: Yes or no?
Master down: Yes or no?
Master up/gain down: Yes or no?
Master up/gain up: Yes or no?

How long do you leave hte power on before switching from standby to play?

knob settings have no effect(i tried a million knob and switch combos). I have tried leaving it on for 3 min.(normally).and even tried 10 min. with
no change. what are your thoughts?

If it does not make the noise with the main master off, if the problem is a tube, either the phase inverter (V3) or one of the power tubes. Really the only way to determine this is by substituting known good tubes. Not sure what J42D meant. The Sovtek 12AX7WA may not be the coolest/esoteric tube but they have proven to be more reliable than any other 12AX7 we have tested/used. Doesn't mean you might not have a bad one, just means they have benn pretty reliable for us. We have our own, custom built, tube testing system and every tube must pass the testing. We still do reject quite a few in production.

it does make the noise with the master volume all the way down.
all knobs on or off or in the middle, still makes the noise. Guess i will have
to order some tubes to try.isn't there a 90 day tube warranty? once i figure out which
is bad do i mail them to egnater.

It was a bad v3 tube.I replaced it and problem solved. I appreciate everyone at egnater being so helpful. and everyone on this forum.
