First off I have owned Anderson, Friedman USA EVH and other high end guitars with Floyd's
I did the video because there are no real in depth reviews on YT this I saw before getting this beast. I will add I am not 100% sold on the bridge pick up. It is very clear and open with a little bit of shrillness on the top end. I imagine that will cut in the mix but what I am describing is paired with the Headfirst Alta amp which is very open and raw and a bit bright in a good way, however paired with a similar voiced pick up it can be a bit much.

With my modded BE Dlx 100w it is perfect!

Congrats! Sounds great! Which bridge pickup is it?

Edit: nm I see you mentioned it is the Luxxtone Hot.

Sounds GREAT...What would you compare that Luxx Hot pickup to in say the Seymour Duncan line?

Honestly I don't know what to compare it to, it is not compressed and is super clear which sounds great with the Friedman and good with the Alta but the Aldrich is a perfect match so I think I will put one in :m17:

I wonder if it is the Arcane Mr Scary pickup? That one is 13.5k.

I’m buying Arcane pickups for a partscaster and have asked Rob a few questions. Apparently the Luxxtone Old School is a Triple Clone so it wouldn’t surprise me if the Luxxtone Hot is another pickup from their stock offerings. FWIW, I decided to try their Landau Lost Spec (not a regular offering but they still make it) which I think is just an overwound Triple Clone.

He did say that it was in 14 k range and that it is uncompressed. Not sure how you make a pup compresses?? I will 99% sure be selling this one if your interested?

According to this seller on Reverb the Luxx Hot measures around 14K, this one was 14.6K ohms. I'm hearing quite a bit of PAF clank and spank in the tone and I agree with you I hear it as less compressed than a Seymour Duncan Custom which measures 14K so they are close resistance wise.

This is a Luxxtone Luxxbucker Hot in excellent condition. Floyd spaced. it came from a Luxxtone El Machete. Reads 14.6k. Lots of lead. No issues.

Having played an 80's Duncan custom for awhile there is more mids push and a kind of compression for lack of a better term to describe it. I kinda like the more PAF qualities in the Luxxx Hot honestly, the clarity is nice but it does have some snarl to it but it sounds more balanced like a PAF without a large mids push emphasis that you get when you wind over 9.5K-10K.

You could try either a 250k volume pot or wire in a ‘dummy’ tone pot (cap and resistor in series to ground to simulate a tone pot on 10).

Or a different magnet.

My partscaster will be HSS so I’m sort of shooting for a 250k volume pot for the whole guitar. I’ve already ordered the Lost Spec.

The weird thing about the Luxx hot bridge pup in question is how it responds to high gain. On the friedman it's exactly like you want but the Marshall DNA in the Alta comes across with less gain which if it wasn't for the top end 'clank' as you called it it would be cool but I find myself constantly changing mids and response to try and find the sweet spot
With my LP's with the Aldrich it's so easy to find that perfect tone

I totally get what you are saying!

The Aldrich's have that mids push and "Compression" since they are 17.5K and kind of similar to a JB.

What works for one amp may not work for another....The Luxx hot is still a very PAF sounding pickup for 14K which is impressive.:2thumbsup:

That's why I love my Luxx hot and it's staying in the guitar. It's the highest output PAF sound that I'm aware of. In my San Dimas, I have a custom wound Throbak that is super legit PAF, but it's a 10k. My custom Throbak and Luxx Hot are very similar with the airy, chirpy, blooming and kind of scooped mids thing going and I love em.
