Yeah, I know Lynch gets a lot of talk over here, and there are quite a few posts about various rigs he used over the years. Wicked Sensation by far has my favorite rhythm tones of all time. I say it all the time, but I don't think I'll ever stop trying to get that basic tone.

It's generally assumed he used a Soldano SLO and his "Haji" guitar for most of the album, in fact I've read interviews that confirm both. The one thing that doesn't get talked about is speakers. On the WS album, were they Greenbacks? V30s? Fane? Something else?

I would see the basic foundation being:

1) Alder bodied guitar w/Floyd
2) Screamin Demon pickup
3) Soldano SLO #6
4) ??? speakers

V30s came out in '86 I think, but I don't see Lynch as a V30 user except an album or two near the turn of the century. Not sure when he started using Fanes, but maybe when he found that HiWatt cab. He used Greenbacks for all the Dokken stuff and most of the time live and in studio these days, so that seems like a logical choice.

Any comments from our SLO + Greenback users?

He used the slo and a plexi for that album, I believe

Sounds like greenbacks to me. I use a 90s checkered Marshall reissue cab and it definitely has that Wicked Sensation/River Of Love tone.

To my ear, the SLO likes greenbacks better than V30s. They sound smoother and juicier.

I use SLO+Marshall Greenback.. Haji straight into the amp, Wicked Sensation riff all the way~

I thought some other amps were mixed into the overall sound there as well... might even be some Mesa in addition to the Slo and Plexi being 80% of the tone. I think you are actually hearing 3-4 guitar layered for those rythms so keep that in mind too.

What about that maple body amber ESP he used in those studio vids that had the producer sitting at e board?

I don't think any SLO was used. I would bet it was Aspen Pittman's purple plexi with a Boss SD-1 in front of it. I doubt the Screaming Demon was used either...Duncan Distortion probably.

The Screamin Demon wasn't out until after the record was complete. I believe that he used a Duncan Distortion and a JB.

An SLO was used. Again, watch the vid with the Amber ESP.

And the Demon is Duncan's WORST pickup ever...muddy and inarticulate . (IMO) I hate it. The Super V is much nicer.

The SLOs ARE in the video, but there's NO CORD plugged into them and they aren't turned on either I don't think...the cord goes into a yellow Boss box on the floor and then into the purple plexi that IS turned on.

George has stated on a few occasions that he has resigned himself to the fact that he is just a Marshall man at heart...he goes off on a tangent and tries everything (whore, lol) but seems to always come back to Marshalls.

Strongly advise skipping #2, just imo.

Would even argue some of the other ones aren't absolutely necessary to get close to that tone...

I don't know what it was (coulda been a Marshall, layered tracks etc, ), but the end result sounds exactly like a SLO thru a green back. In my opinion, it's most likely a double tracked SLO.

I think the overdubs in that video were the Marshall -- so it would make sense to use a different amp for the rhythms.

I don't know...5881s/6L6s don't sound like EL34s, which is what that sounds like to me...

The SLO's were only used sparingly....as far as I know only on certain parts like "River of Love" arpeggiated part during the chorus. The SLO is NOT the core tone of the Wicked Sensation album. He used Marshalls for the main riffs. Those solo parts were done using an SD-1 thru the purple Aspen Pittman Marshall. I believe it was a '72 Super Lead.

George did use the SLO's live while on tour for the Wicked Sensation and the 2nd album's tour.
