I know some of you use a GCP with the M4. I plan to when my M4 arrives. But I was wondering how you have implemented the channel changing with the GCP. In other words, it would seem that since the M4 has 4 two channel modules, do you use 8 different buttons on the GCP to access each module and it's two channels? Do you have the GCP set for 10 presets per bank or 4 presets/bank w/ 8 instant access?

It just seems that the bulk of my GCP's buttons will be needed for the M4 and I'm curious as to how you folks are doing it.

Thanks.

What I do, is set the GCP in the 4-button preset mode w/ 8 instant access buttons. I use the presets to change the channels w/ M4. I use the instant access buttons to turn on / off effects w/in my Lexicon MPXG2 (phase, delay, mute, flanger, octafuzz, etc etc). I use the presets mainly for my main tones (i have 4 banks of 4 presets of my main tones) and use the instant access buttons to add efx to flavor the preset if needed.

I knew you'd be the first to post! :)

So if you're using 4 presets/bank, I assume that you're banking up and down to get to the other modules. In other words, bank 1, presets 1 - 4 would give you access to 2 modules (Say mod 1 and 2, channels a and b) and then bank 2 would be used for mods 3 and 4. Is that what you're doing?

And since you're doing it that way, are you using the preset buttons strictly for channel changing or, are you also loading a patch from your lexicon?

Thanks alot.

How'd you guess ??? :)

I use the presets to change both the M4 and Lexicon. For instance..bank one is:

1 -- Clean / Delay tone (Lexicon verb, Delay) with DLX Channel A
2 -- EG5 Rhythm (Lexicon Noise Gate) w/ EG5 Channel A
3 -- EG5 Ballsy Rhythm (Lexicon Noise Gate) w/ EG5 Channel B
4 -- Lead Tone (Lexicon Noise Gate / Delay) w/ SL2 Channel B

I am using 7 of the 8 channels in my rig at this time. For the songs / recordings I have been doing I have not needed the SL2 Channel A quite yet. I'll add in there soon enough :). The presets change both the channels of the M4 and lexicon's main patches. I use the instant access switches to add an effect here and there. Works beautifully!!!!

I have the M4 set to MIDI channel 1 and the Lexicon to MIDI channel 2, so there is no confusion, and so I can reuse patches in the Lexicon, so I don't have reprogram the same patches 30 times ;).

Thats how I have it set too

Mine is setup for

Bank 1 - T/D / Vox
Bank 2 - SL2 / EG5

Other 8 instant access buttons controls stuff in my GCX as well as sending messages to turn on/off effects in my axefx

God I have my work cut out for me. I just got my GC Pro over last weekend. I have all 3 of the Line 6 Pro Racks and I'm planning on picking up a Lexicon or G Major for Reverb. M4 has been on order since Feb. I'll have 5 units at minimum to control. I'm guessing I'll be using the 10 preset mode. For now I'm using a POD via the special mode which uses the 4/8. I'm not liking it though because I picked this thing up to avoid all the tap dancing. What is cool though is that I scored one of the expression pedals for free with the Filter Pro so I can use it as a wah or to change parameters on any of the racks on the fly. Very handy.

But if I read correctly, Eric isn't doing quite what you're doing. His presets are just set for his main sounds. You're doing what I was thinking of doing which is to use one bank for the first 2 mods and another bank for the next 2 mods. So a channel change, in your case, from say the TD to the EG5, is a two button touch: bank up/down, then the preset button.

Sorry! Maybe I didn't explain it correctly ( I think I missed "But" in the line)  Was kind of in a hurry to type all that, I guess what I mean is I have it setup for the Instant access function/4 preset per bank mode. I am going to change how it is programmed in a week or so though. But I think the way Eric has it setup is really good and I will probably switch mine to something similar.

After playing with mine for sometime now it gets annoying having to hit bank then the preset to switch to a clean channel. I will probably change it to "per song " per bank

i have the ground pro and 2 gcx.all my pedals are on 2 rack slide trays(velcroed) all my boost, distortion overdrive pedals go through the first one.my chorus, ibanez analog dm1000 delay, flange, phaser and furman rack mount reverb and pedals go through the 2nd gcx in the effects loop. also the 2nd gcx is used as my A/B box to switch to my mesa mkIII and switches ch1 ch2 ch3 on my mesa. i have all this set up so i push 1 button and i have ex....clean/reverb no fx ...ch2 rhythm/reverb no fx...ch7 mesa crunch ch8 mesa lead... bank11 clean delay bank12 mesa/bk tube driver/delay for a david gilmour sound. each button is named and has all i need for a part of the song.i did set it up so the first 8 are just the eggie M4. i find as i go through a song i just set up the ground pro with a dedicated bank, usally 2 songs a bank. get urself a label maker or by a pack of video # and letter stickers, i label the pedals so i know which #the pedal is in EX ..maxon od808 (gcx1 #5) fulltone fat boost fb2 (gcx1 #1) carl martin plexitone (gcx1 #3) ibanez dm1100 delay (gcx2 #6)voodoo lab chorus (gcx2 #7).This helps alot when programing and trying to remember which pedal is where.
