How do your M4s respond to program patch changes above 8? (As default)

Mine does a "mute all" even though the controller isn't sending midi note data, and the M4's DIP switches are set to not receive it.

Where I am right now is that on patches 1 - 8, the M4 will switch as it is supposed to, but at any patch # above that it mutes (with all panel lights going blank). I can manually program it to respond to any of the higher patch numbers but I was hoping that the M4 would see them as "don't-cares."

Working as designed.

What you need to do...is to either have a midi controller configured to send PC's 1-8 on one MIDI channel for your M4...and another MIDI channel for your other rack units.

I have my Ground Control Pro configured with two devices:

Egnater M4 - on MIDI channel 1
Rack EFX - on MIDI Channel 2

That way...when I click on PC1 on the Ground Control Pro...I can send one PC to the Egnater (which will be 1-8...which corresponds with the Channel I want to use...ie...PC1 = Module 1 ChA, PC2 = Module 1 ChB, PC3= Module 2 ChA, and so on). I have the other device send whatever PC I need depending on what effects I want turned on. I don't use CC's at all with my Egnater M4...and only use CC's with my effects...to tap the tempo...and to turn on / off individual effects. I send PC's to change the "scene" of effects. If I want another particular effect on...for a "spur of the moment" type of thing...then I use the IA's to send the CC to turn that individual effect on (ie. reverb, chorus, delay, etc).

Alternatively. You can send the M4 any PC #, select the channel you want, and then hold down the channel switch button for 3-4 seconds, and it will save that anytime you send PC 54 for example....it will select Module 3 ChB.

Hope that helps.

Eric, thanks for your response and your patience.

My controller can send PC changes on six MIDI channels simultaneously per patch. Each of the sets can be configured for one of MIDI channels 1-16. Set 1 will always be sending the primary patch number; sets 2 through 6 can send any patch number on their assigned MIDI channel that you want them to.

However, each of the 6 channel sets must be either globally on or off, except set 1 which is the primary whose patch number is shown on the controller's display and is globally on always.

If I use the primary set for the M4, it's always on and since it sends the primary patch numbers the M4 will mute at PC 9 and above, unless I manually program the M4 to accept the higher patch numbers.

So let's say I instead use program change set 2 for the M4, so that I can select the specific patch numbers. Set 2 is always going to be on, (since it has to be either on or off globally) and so for the M4 to not mute it must receive patch 1 - 8 on every patch sent on the primary set or it will mute.

I can't think of a way around this. Even though it's no big deal, it does force me to associate some specific M4 setting with the other channels' assignments rather than being able to "free assign" patch changes to FX without having a corresponding M4 setting.

Unless I'm missing something fundamental, or expecting more out of the standard protocols than is the norm.

Does your Voodoo controller let you inhibit sending PCs to the M4 if you want to just send a PC to your FX, or do you always have to address them both with each PC?
