Are you using any kind of noise suppressors?

Some days I have more hiss than others and I think my RT2/50 is a bit hissier than the VHT was. Just wondering if anyone here is using a noise pedal. And, what you do in the event you run in stereo.

Also, for the RT2/50 users, what preamp tubes are you running?

Thanks.

Dave

power? cable going bad? It was pretty darn quite for me, though I did not turn it up very loud. I always had more noise with my egnater modules over my randall ones, randal's seemed to be more quite in regards to higher gain.

Mine is dead quiet unless I have the gain really turned up. I have a ISP rack noise reduction that I don't need to use.
I agree with checking the input driver tube.

In the module or the amp? I have 3 new JJ ECC83S tubes in the RT2/50. I've only changed tubes in the EG5. It has 2 JJs as well.

In the power amp. I would go with Sovtek 12ax7aLPS for those. They are clean and quiet. I'm not a big fan of the JJs for that stage of the amp. They can be noisy and dark.

Thanks. I'd imagine you mean the phase inverter. The RT2/50 has one for each channel. Or do you mean the one in between those?

I also notice that the noise changes as I turn the guitar towards or away from the rig. I'm playing my Suhr Modern BTW.

Isn't the line driver actually a cathode follower? Unless, you're talking about the phase inverter?

Isn't the Sovtek LPS like the worst, most dangerous possible tube you can use as a Cathode Follower?? Or, is the voltage that much lower in a line driver stage?

I'm just playing devil's advocate here since, I'm not 100% up to speed on the lethality of the LPS tube in the CF.
