What are the tonal differences between these two speakers? i have a decent idea of what an m75 sounds like but i dont have any experience with k100's. I'm deciding what to put in my mojo os 1x12 and have narrowed it down to these two choices. I know Eric is a fan of both of these so I'm hoping he'll chime in here. I mostly play blues, classic rock and metal. Thanks

I know Eric prefers the Scumback as his top speaker but man......the K-100 kills! Big tight lows, strong mids and smooth highs. Does it get any better? A friend of mine has em in his cab and they rule the day. :)

M75 sounds like a greenback...but definitely higher headroom when you get the 65W / 100W versions. Really big, thick tone with a very good balance of tones. I use these in my TM412 and TM212 at the moment. Gonna move my 2nd TM212 to a H75 / M75 setup though. But I digress! :)

The K100 is a mixture of a V30 / T75...to me...with more emphasis on the V30 type of tone. It has better low end, better low mids than a V30...but higher headroom and a smoother top end. I really like both speakers. The K100 is a killer sounding speaker on its own that's for sure, as well as mixed w/ V30s. I know a lot of ppl that do the V30 / K100 mix to get that vintage flair from the V30, and the big bold fatness of the K100 to have a huge sounding cab. K100s sound great by themselves too. The K100 is a bit finicky on what to mix w/ it though. Best results I had was with the V30. So ...I personally prefer it on its own...or with a V30.

The M75 is definitely my favorite all around speaker, as it has that great mixture of vintage tone with modern flair. I recommend the 65W for most ppl if you do get them.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'm gonna go with a m75. I'll be playing mostly clean and bluesy mid-gain stuff with this cab and it sounds like an m75 is the best choice for that

Eric, I bet the G12-65/ K100 would be another mix to get that vintage flair and the big bold fatness in one cab! I'll know soon!

Also, Bruce mentioned the cab sounds the biggest with the Elite 80s. So, far I agree! But, I haven't tried others in this cab yet. I am doing the speaker mixing in my Randall. ;)

Probably will sound fine. But, I think the K100 needs a bit of "grit" w/ another speaker if you are going to mix. The K100 and G1265 have a similar top end, that is a bit muted, and I bet will sound a bit too dark honestly.

The Elite 80 is a great speaker...just not for me by itself. It was a bit "bleh" for me in a 2x12. Didn't have the tone a K100 or a V30 or a M75 has in terms of vintage flair.

I don't think Bruce honestly has time to experiment w/ speaker swaps as much as other have. The CL80s are great speakers...as are the Elite 80s...and will do fine for most people. Just not me. It wasn't a "bigness" I was missing. It was a certain feel..and tone I was looking for. The CL80s for me...were a bit too sterile w/ 2 in the TM212s. Not enough "vintage grind." I wanted something in between a V30 or greenback and the CL80. The M75 fits that bill for me.

I will agree to a point with this. I had no problem with my TM2X12 with both E80's in there but after I dropped an ET65 in one of the spots I liked it even more. The K100's that I tried did nothing for me.

I run a 3 speaker set up now with a Super V in a RM50 combo also pushing the TM2X12. Sometimes I feel like I am covering too much sonic ground and need to narrow the freq spectrum a little bit. Sure does sound good the way it is though.

I personally haven't tried the ET65 / E80 combo. Might be a good combo... I could see it being pretty cool, but potentially could lack a bit of top end that I was hoping for.

Well, I'll try it Eric. I mean the K85s, 65s and 100s all work alone so they should be fine mixed. I really don't like the cut your head off nature of V30s in any cab...mixed or not. I might end up with two 100s or the ET65/Vet30 mix. A friend has that and loves it to death! He also has the Weber Blue Dog/Silver Bell pair and ap[parently another great matchup. I hope I get a chance to play these soon.

Well...not all speakers that sound great on their own sound good mixed. The K100 / M75 combo...sucked. Probably the worst speaker combo I've ever put together. In 2 1x12 cabs...they sounded great together. In the same cab...nope..not at all. I got phase cancellation issues, which really killed the top end, and muddied the mids.

So, don't assume that richidie. That's a BAD assumption... The V30s sound great w/ the K100s. I've tried it...and liked it..but didn't love it. Blue Dog / Silver bells sound great together too. Good for rock / classic rock..but now as much for hard rock / metal.

I use The Scumback M55's with my Tourmaster ....truly amazing speakers....If I want more clarity, I mix them with the Lynch Super V's

K100s need to be pushed in order to sound great. I don't love love them at lower volumes. Especially in a 112, you need to get it cooking, and get that cone moving, for the bass and low end to come alive.

The more and more I do speaker swapping, you find that each speaker has it's sweet spot, volume wise.

If a speaker breaks up naturally (like a V30), there's a fine line between cranking it too much, and not enough. If a speaker stays clean, like a K100, you gotta get that cone moving for it to wake uo. Crank a V30 too much, and it farts out. Don't crank it enough, and it's nothing but fizz.
