maintenance question on my ampeg ss70 combo

first off, even with the level turned all the way down, the dirt channel still seems too noisy.

also, the reverb doesn't work. When the knobs are turned it just gets this really weird sound.

I don't know what kinda precautions to take. What should I do about these issues, and how do I avoid electrocuting myself in the process?

also, would any ampeg footswitch work? cause I don't have one for it
 
Hate to say it(but not really) : SS is crap and generally not worth repair. Please buy a tube amp next time.

Is it an AX70? I had one of those.... it was okay back in the day. I gigged with that amp for several years.... if that's what you have, have you tried replacing the 12AX7 preamp tube?

They have a hybrid front end...

Oh, yeah... forgot the LOL.
 
how does that little thing sound. they are supposed to be close the the vh140. you should plug it into a real cab

The AX70? It was okay at best. I used an ART PowerPlant for my lead tone... it's all a bad memory at this point, luckily. The thing was built like a tank, though, I never had to worry about it getting wrecked or stolen :D

I like it pretty good

and I'm fine with the combo. It's got an actual Celestion
