Can you take a TM212 and build a removable box, like a headshell case but a lot larger that is Insulated? How much room does it need in front of the speakers?

I see bands using iso cabs that look like 4x12 cabs with a mike placed in front, sitting behind the stage, and then enclosed.

Any suggestions?

I used an old piece of MDF furniture from Ikea, and built an iso booth. I'm going to say its roughly 3.5' x 3.5'. Lined the inside of it with carpet sample squares. I turned one of the sides into a door with some hinges and a handle, so I could slide the cab in and out easily. For me, I'm using a custom built 112 cab, that's just about the size of an Egnater Mod oversize 112.

The box doesn't need to be much bigger than the cab. Just so long as you can comfortable fit a microphone in front of it. The whole point of the cab is to isolate it, so you're not going to get ANY "space" out of the sound at all.

That being said, it allows Matt and I to crank our Mod50s for recording, and the exterior volume is very low. It's not a total silent-booth, but you can talk over it easily.

Cool Thanks. I have a mic elim but still wanted to hve mic'ing options. I wasn't sure if there was some big complicated science formula for it.

I mean, I'm sure you could get some expert to tell you the angles and geometry and such, but my goal was to make a dirt-cheap dead-room box that would surround an actual guitar cab.

Here's a DIY idea:

Buy this table for $50 from ikea. Use that as the frame. Then just close in the legs with sheets of 28x29" plywood, and put one of the sheets on hinges with a latch to close it. Then cover the entire inside with carpet (and make sure it sits on a piece of carpet too). That'll make you a nice 29x29 box approximately, and that's probably enough to hold a big 112 cab.

If you need it bigger, they make one that is more rectangular to hold a 212.

And since it'll be relatively sturdy, you can keep your amp head, or effects, or beer, or turkey dinner, on top.

Lol that's cool thanks. I'm a trim carpenter/cabinet builder by trade. Being a general contractor I have access to finish grade multiply wood.

That's awesome. I have no access to such wood, hence, I scour the "as-is" bin at IKEA.
