Marshall 4010 Converted to a Head

I am a head and cab guy, so I totally get converting a combo to a head. What I think is funny is that Marshall fans want heads and you see combos converted to heads. Fender fans its the other way. Very common to see a bassman or bandmaster head converted to a combo. :)
I had no choice with my 4211 chassis..no cab. I can’t imagine what it would cost if I wanted it original in a combo cab.

This has been a long time coming. Found this 1984 4010 from Sam Ash for a good price, but have no interest in lugging around a combo. I pulled the chassis immediately and saw that thing had been completely untouched inside. Big relief.

Took a few months for the headshell to come in and I had the amp recapped and converted to EL34s. I also pulled a leg of the mid cap. Now it’s a portable, affordable 2204 and a little nod to the snorkler.

Looks great! Where did you source the head shell from? Looking to do the same thing with my 4010! Thanks

I've considered just building it as practice for doing finger box joints and learning how to wrap tolex, but I've seen Sourmash's stuff and think a shell from him would be ideal.
That's what I'm figuring on doing as practice before building some monster-sized speaker cabinets. Less wood to screw up => less money to burn.

Yes - Sourmash
