thinking about picking one up. Is this a killer amp or is it a glorified tsl? I was going to get this or a jcm800 2204. whatcha think? same price on each one.

I don't wanna sway your decision too much, but if you do decide to buy one, I have a 6100LM with 6L6s for sale.

cool! shoot me a pm with the price please. now.....what do think of it? is it going to give me the nasty marshall grind that I'm looking for?

I had a 6101 LE with the LM mod done later, EL34's.

In general the EL34's are supposed to sound better in the amp than the 5881's. The LM mod seems to be 50/50.

I really liked Channel 1 and Channel 2a, and b. If the modes on channel 2 were footswitchable, that would be awesome. I found the lead channel too buzzy and harsh, same with channel 2c. Overall a nice amp. Reliability issues have been mostly with midi function and in the combos ( I assume due to heat)

Channel 2a and b will give you a nice distortion/crunch sound, they are worth checking out the amp for.

I've had a Blue EL34 verison for a few years now, and I like it.

Satriani loves 6100's.

He still accumulates them if you watch closely on egay.

(along with ALL of the MIJ Boss DS-1's)

I've owned the blue one's with 34's and overall they are great sounding amp's, the LM 6L6 model didn't really sound as good IMHO. Clean channel is very good for a Marshall, crunch channel is were most live with the different modes, the lead channel is very cool as well for high gain sounds. It can have issues especially with the power tube sockets on the plates they are mounted on...very hard to get parts for them now according to the amp guy I have set up my stuff. If I was to get another one it would have to be minty and barely ever used. Seriously a very brutal attack sounding amp in a good way! Hope this helps!

Couple of clips/songs from a Benatar tribute band I was in:

Great sounding heads!
DO NOT BUY THE COMBO!!!!!!!
Inside the combo, are three layers of pcb's piled on top of each other
which is a disaster to work on! I had a simple problem in the preamp section
due to overheating and all three boards had to be removed to get at the
part to replace it... Cost $$$$$$$$$$
Plus the combos are a smaller package with everything crammed in tight.

Great tone while it worked tho!!
Buy the head!

Agree!

Great amp, you need to buy the EL34 head. Its much warmer than the other one. 3 Good channels, channel 1 is a nice round clean, channel 2 is very versatile, and channel 3 is more compressed and squishy, more liquid.

It doesnt sound as 3D as a 2204 but what it lacks in that respect it makes up for in versatility. Id buy another one.

I had a combo too and it got really hot, I didn't open it up to check the construction. In general marshall combos run hot and should be avoided, they don't deal well with the heat IMO. The DLS401 I had was the same way, not little beast.

I can't complain too much, I got what I paid for the 6101LE and it sold quickly....
