Need some opinions-thoughts of this amp(Marshall JCM900 SLX)Thanks...

Generally doesn't get much love over here. I have never played one.

I have owned one... actually I've owned all JCM 900 models (Dual Reverb, MKIII, SL-X)
The SL-X is a bit better than the Dual Reverb, which is considered the worst of the bunch
Not a bad amp, not a great one. If you can get one for cheap, give it a try

The entire Jcm 900 gets a little bit of a bad rap. Turn it up and it will sound great. Try boosting it also. Don't pay more than the $500-600 range.

Why the bad rap ???The people that are giving it a bad rap are the ones who think you need to spend $2500 to $4000 then its a good amp.Ive been though that, big disappointment.

I have never owned the slx, but did own the mkIII 2500 and I liked that much better then the dual reverb 900's.

There's alot of amp hype/marketing out there.Your amp builders/boutique builders started from either Marshall or Fender thats it....

I can make it sound like it,if it has the gain to achieve it.

People hate on them because they have SS in the signal path. The SLX has it in the right spot.

It's been a few years since I have played one but they are a good amp.

What type of music are you after? The JCM2000 DSL might be a better option. All depends on what you want/need.

The JCM 900 SLX its pure tube signal path,I already asked a tech about that.No diode clipping.

I play one for my main amp. I also use an old Fender Bassman. IMO the SLX is the most underrated Marshall around, and they are so cheap and it blows my mind. Crank it up, keep the gain and sensitivity in control and trust me, it will get you where you want to be. I am a DSL50/100 fanatic and I think they sound almost the same how I use them. The SLX is the best buy in Marshall amps at the moment.

Its a Marshall thats all that counts just looking for a backup amp.

I'll put it this way, I played vert input 2203s and 04's forever and sold them all off to wierdos who want to mod everything, and I play the SLX and I think "Isn't this what they wanted?" I don't crank the gain much but when you do I cannot imagine you want more of a badass rock tone.

How True is that......  I need to play one,is there enough gain to go over the top.

There's enough gain to go wherever you need to and if you need more, get a boost. It's a Marshall treat it like one.

I currently own one and it sounds great. The higher gain settings is not that great and the low is pretty loose.
Other than that it kicks butt !

Far and away the best of the 900 series. A great amp IMO...much gainer than a 2203. Needs to be played loud to get to the good stuff. Most of the people that I've heard bag on it are basement/bedroom warriors.

IMHO the bad rap is that the 900's need a lot of volume to sound good. I had a 50 watt slx and it was flubby on the bottom, otherwise it sounded ok, just not worth more than $500.
