This amp catches a bunch of grief, but for the money, I'm a fan. I was tuning this amp up for a buddy of mine and figured I'd make a video with it. Super fun to play. EL-34 model is definitely the way to go vs the 5881/6L6 version in my opinion. Dig it! ⚡

Even the JCM2000's sounds pretty damn good, especially boosted. My bandmate picked one up for like $400 with a wheeled case. I've read about reliability issues with them but for $400 run it to ground lol

Hell yeah! That's my line of thinking as well. I love a nice amp as much as the next guy, but the cheap stuff gets the job done as well.

Theres a reason the dsl is one of the most backlined amps ever. Yes it's cheap, but it also delivers.

900s get a bit of a bad rap.. at the time they came out. Everyone was using a dual rectifier shortly after and that was the sound. Also the 5881s dont help, along with being thinner sounding compared to earlier Marshall's. That said, they can definitely sound damn good.

Saw Cantrell during solo period in Austin jcm 4100 sounded great

I understand some of the negative aspects of the 900DR, but they are far better than their reputation leads them to be IMO.

I have had an acquaintance do a few quick mods to one and they can be pretty badass with a few small tweaks.

When the tech guys on the forums made it a point to convey that the signal path for the preamp was solid state people developed a psychological bias, even over their own ears in most cases.

Exactly this. They can be modded to bypass that relatively easily too. They sound great once they have.

I loved my EL34 4500, and I wish I'd never sold it. Pure Marshall tone. Will even do modern high gain with a boost and an EQ in the loop.

Always thought these sounded much better than people ever gave them credit for. Still not my first choice, but wouldn't hesitate to use one if it were provided for backline.

Also, my favorite LTJ riff, good stuff.

Hell yeah! Love them. I just snagged a Silver Jubilee that I'm super impressed with. Hopefully going to make another vid with it this weekend.

Everyone hated 800's at some point. I remember in the early 90's you could get 800's, and vintage plexi for dirt cheep :)

The 900's sound pretty good, they just didn't have the balls of a recto at the time. Actually if you can score a 900 sl-X that is the one to get. the sl-X has a lot less of the opamps, and no diode clipping.
