I spent just a few minutes with one in the OD1 and OD2 modes. Pretty easy to figure out how to use it. I thought it sounded great. OD1 had a JCM 800 vibe but more available gain. OD2 had that modded flavor with more gain and thump. There's some sort of mid or bass shift button that was cool with a Strat. What's not to love?

Agreed.

Though, I recently sold mine, and JFX-1 because I wasn't using it, not because I didn't dig the sound.

Look into getting a Two Notes Torpedo CAB if you want a direct rig.

I've kept my #1 ADA MP-2 (noise mod, and shortened power cord) from back in the day; but really dig my Mesa TriAxis (with Phat mod).

I had the real deal a couple times, and the model on the AxeFx sure does it justice! Great unit.

I have one in tandem w the Two Notes Torpedo Live & I run it along w my VH4 & live cabinet. Needless to say people weep over my tones!!!!

Very nice preamp.Often underated.Lots of great tone in the jmp1 for the user that spends some time with it!

Love mine! Record all my music on it and use it live

It´s a nice preamp, just sort of forgotten since it´s widely available and cheap. But hey, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard have been using it nonstop since it came out, so it´s got to have something going for it :)

Exactly why I bought it :) even Megadeth had a short fling with it live, smashing pumpkin etc. My favorite features are the cab emulation out and when it's paired with the EL84 or similar. Use the "deep" mode and it sounds great even at low volumes once the tubes have warmed up.

It gets alot of flak for not being a "true" tube pre-amp since it runs in a hybrid mode but if it sounds good then it sounds good.

I've used them since they came out and as most of you know..I've owned a good part of all the big name, awesome, unobtainium amps in the world and always took the rack with the JMP-1 in it when it came time to suit up.

Yeah I never understood why it got flack because most folks talking shit about it use a pedal to push their marshall over the top which really isn't any different. Some of the best marshall tones ever have an overdrive or gain pedal that had clipping diodes in it as well so I always took those critiques with a grain of salt.

I had a few of them and thought they were great. I really liked OD2 with that bass/low mid shift. I liked it even better after getting it modded (and then bought another modded one) because clean 2 greatly improved. If it had better attack while using OD2 w/shift I'd still have it.

Yeah I've been real impressed with OD2 (though I don't use the bass shift). It sounds sooo heavy and chunky. Really a great box. Clean 1 with lots of gain and the bass shift sounds really warm with a hint of break up. Nice for Angus stuff. OD1 can get ripping 2203-type tones. And OD2 throws down modded Marshall metal.

There has been so much great stuff brought up on jmp1 in this thread! Lots of great bits of info to help along someone just discovering the preamp for the first time. I overlooked these units back in the day and it was to my loss. I now own a dead mint stock one and modded one. Both unique in their own right. Be sure to pair it up with a good quality poweramp and youll love it!

Weird, the one I had was meh.

I had the same experience. I paired it with a VHT 2/50/2 and it still didn't deliver. My Single Rectifier and JCM 900 SL-X sound better to my ears.
