Hi,

I was using Marshall MG 412, which is a very cheap cab, but with Engl Fireball it was a killer. Then I sold it and bought harley benton 212 vintage (celestion v30 2x12). Now Iam in the market for some real cab and I wonder..

Speakers in Marshall MG 412 are modeled after witch celestion speaker? I mean if I want to recreate that kind of sound, but better, should I use v30, g12-75, or greenbacks?

Thanks.

I have an MG cab. I agree that it sounds decent at low volume but after awhile it just doesn't sound "alive" like my 1960B. Can't handle any serious volume. Tiny magnets on those speakers!

To my ears they have some of the purr and "squonk" of something between a Classic Lead 80 and G12T-75. It's almost a generic greenback sort of tone but smoother and lacking the cut and punch of greenies.

Are you looking to replace the v30s in your 212 or buy a 412? Used 1960s with 75s seem to pop up all the time and you can usually get them pretty cheap. I actually liked the 75s in mine a lot. Also really dig the CL80s and Greenbacks

My son had one a year ago...sounded to me like a G12C...you can only get those in VM or Hendrix cabs. They sound pretty compressed but nice.

Thanks. Iam actually looking to replace my 2x12 harley benton vintage with v30s for engl 4x12 pro cab (v30), or engl 4x12 retro cab (g12-75). Do you think that the sound of retro cab will be too much off from mg 412?

Marshall still sells the G12c :)
I think the only way to get a speaker from Marshall is to provide a serial number of a cab they came in. Or just buy a VMcab. They are my favorite greenback that I've tried...not that I've tried too many.
