The good, bad and the ugly ?

I played one when it came out for a few minutes and don't remember much about it.

I have a 2466 - I've always absolutely loved it. I use the 'low' setting on the dynamic range pushed pretty hard for a light crunch sound, and use an overdrive (Fulltone OCD works great as an example) to push it into higher gain Marshall roar. It's a beautifully organic sound, and just a joy to play. I consider these 'hidden gems' amongst those that are willing to give them a shot. It's a permanent keeper in my amp family!

I had the 50w version. Didn't keep it long; wasn't bad, step up from a DSL for sure but fell short of the stock or modded Marshall JMP/JCMs I had at the time. This was back in 2010 or so, prior to me being here.

Hi gain settings are nothing to write home about and classic sounds can’t touch a 6 knobber. I felt they did the amp wrong, trying to have it have a door into both worlds and was executed poorly. After having owned an Origin 20, I would take an Origin Marshall over a VM easily.

I had a 2466 for a while. Quite liked it for thicker Marshall tones, like 80's era Angus or Black Crowes say. For stinging Plexi tones or more modern stuff it didn't do it for me and it was a replaced with a Dirty Shirley which filled those shoes and more.

I got a great deal on a Marshall Origin 50C combo, it was so good for the price that I got the 50H full stack.

Headfirst in Australia did a gut shot / component comparison of the Origin 20 vs Studio Classic...seemed legit enough for me. Only real difference was the assembly location.

close enough JTM-45, JTM-45/100 and 1959SLP for my needs.

Wanted to like it, tried to like it. Ultimately, I think it's the worst Marshall head I ever played. Even the dealer said "these things sound like mud". It's a very unique sound, nothing like a good plexi or even a jcm800. I believe at the time there were 2 designers at Marshall (Santiago and someone else) Santiago did the JVM, the other guy did the Vintage Modern. Santiago got frustrated and left soon after.

The VM is a different Marshall for sure. You have to turn the MV all he way up to start with, ppiv garbage. It isn’t a very loud amp anyway. The fx loop is in front of it too which doesn’t help. Once dialed in it sounds like For Those About to Rock era tone.

I recently picked one up from here. I think it sounds great on the High Dynamic Range with the volume up at 10-11 o clock. It really fills out and sounds great. I think it sounds better than a stock 800.

I bought it to mod. Want to see what I can do with it. But I may just leave it. It’s a cool sound.

The volume on them is pretty low. Supposedly they are more like 30-35 watts.

It’s the KT66’s.
Y’all want that forward EL34 in your face crunch.
Nope, it’s a milkshake crunch when pinned.
Heavy metal Clapton just doesn’t work.
Are there even any good 66’s anymore?
Clapton OWNS that tube.
Leave it alone.

I still got them Bell Bottom Blues, ya hear?
(AMAZING song & timing signatures)

It seems it is more a JTM or JTM with a extra gain stage. Thanks for replies.
