Maxon OD808 lowers bass?

Finally realized that the OD808 seems to lower the bass a bit (but I already knew about some mid boosting it's doing). Anybody have a link to the GEQ graph that represents essentially what this pedal does? Totally brings an amp to life for hardrock/metal.

All tube screamer based pedals start cutting around 700hz and below, and 800hz and above.

They basically have an EQ curve that looks like /\ with the peak around 700hz.

That's why I dig TS-based pedals.
Does anyone know how the sd-1 is in comparison?

So a similar pedal that doesn't cut the bass as much, try a Maxon OD-9, its a bit more aggressive as well. There are also tons of tubescreamer clones and the like with a bass adjust knob if you want to dig in that much. One of the nice things about the bass cut on a tubescreamer is that it keeps the bass from getting to flabby.

You can also put a graphic EQ behind the tubescreamer and further shape the sound to how you want.

thx for the suggestion. 808 does seem to tighten up the tone/feel for faster metal palm muted playing...

the OD9 cuts just as much bass as the 808
but it is a little more aggressive, indeed

try the TS9DX
its "+" mode leaves the bass untouched, if that is what you want

The Maxon 808 is my favorite TS type pedal! I just got one recently, and it really does the TS mid boost thing well! Sure, it cuts some low end, but that helps some amps (like Plexis)!

hmmm, the OD-9 sure sounds like it has more bass than the smoother OD-808.

Drive pedals cut Bass.
That is why people use them to boost and tighten up looser high gain amps.

If you want to add a little more drive without the bass cut, try a clean boost or an EQ pedal in front

Exactly, everyone generally needs the bass cut and thats what gear pedals are for

Definitely ready for the EQ. I'm actually boosting an Ultra-Lead with the 808x. I like the way it sounds but maybe I'm doing it wrong? EQ or clean boost may be better based off of your post because the UL is tight as fuck to begin with.

Just needed that little kick in the ass or extra hair if you will.

I'll find out soon. Gonna get the Mxr 10 band to start and maybe add a Parametric for the front at some point.

My tiny board has an OD808 and an SD-1 on it. The SD-1 cuts way more bass than the OD808. The SD-1 also has a "krangggg" type thing going on. It's just awesome boosting a Marshall.

^ I don't believe Boss ever changed the SD-1, unlike the DD3 or DS-1, for example. But I have a Taiwanese SD-1.
