Hey Guys,
I'm new here. I'm a long time Bogner player . . . I used to own a Brixton and a Barcelona, but currently I own a pair of Mephistos, a head and a combo. (I'm selling the head, but I probably shouldn't offer it to any of y'all since I don't have enough posts )
One of the cool things I came across with this amp is that it seems to produce a special distorted fuzz envelope filter effect.
With the preamp tubes nearly maxed and the volume (power tubes saturation) maxed on either amp you can get an envelope follower quality to your notes. That is you play the notes and it will create a sound that follow and descends in pitch from your played note! This is like something you would get from a pedal like a Metasonix or something. I thought at first that I had my Moog Guitar in it's "Envelope Filter" mod, but I double checked and tried all the different positions of the switches and I got the same result.
I think on the EL84 side you need to be in Ultra Top Boost mode (++ position of the output switch) and be at least 80% maxed. The sound seems to come on the higher notes and work better if you play them muted (in my case the Moog Guitar's mute mode)
On the 6V6 you get a different tone if you are switched to the "Blackface" mode or the "Tweed" mode. It's more of a descending growl and seems to be most effective on sustained low notes.
One can only imagine the fuzzy mayhem when both amps are cascaded in "parallel" mode.
I sort of showcased it on this track, but it's a bit hard to make out since I was playing "presto" and wah-ing wildly with my Moog Guitar.

Another thing I should mention is that I have the attentuator almost all the way down, so I'm wondering if this effect is a form of exaggerated "Tube Sag" since I am saturating both the power and preamp tubes and limiting output.
Whatever it is I dig it. I hope to post more clips next week (after taxes).
