Can anyone here link me to some solid 6L6GC quads I can get for my Recto in the right range for them? Most sites seem to just have pairs rather than quads I see. Thanks in advance!
They still sell their own tubes, but since all the global stupidity they have been hoarding those in shorter supply, so availability has been off and on.I swear, back in the day I bought replacement tubes for my Electradyne direct from Mesa Boogie. I am not sure if they still do that being under Gibson now.
I have mixed them before. Add in some JJ and it completely changes the highs. Can be interestingThey don't need to be quad-matched for rectifiers. You can even have all three pairs in a triple be of different color codes, as long as the inners match each other, and of course same goes for outers and tweeners.
Furthermore they don't even need to be of the same tube model, only within the same tube family.
For example you could go: (from the rear view)
red 440,,,,,,blue 445,,,,,green 420,,,,,green 420,,,,,blue 445,,,,,red 440
Just keep in mind with the MW triples that it is those in-between slots (blue 445 in the above example) that are fully engaged when in the 50w setting.
Yes, try some JJs and hear if you like them. They’re not a large investment and you can easily get matched quads specifically tested for Mesas from several sellers.I have mixed them before. Add in some JJ and it completely changes the highs. Can be interesting
