Mesa Boogie Badlander vs Other Mesa Boogie Rectifiers?

Hey all,

Was in a store picking up a new guitar and wanted to give it a test run. The store had a Badlander 50W combo which has a 65W Creamback speaker in it I believe. I was pretty impressed with the sounds I could get in under 5 minutes (mainly playing hair metal and thrash type stuff on it). I have a Mark 5 35W head that I like but have realized i'm preferring the simplicity of being able to plug in and play without tweaking too much.

What are everyone else's thoughts on these versus the other rectifiers out there? I have a friend with a 100W Rev G head that I haven't been able to try, but i've heard of people on various forums praising particular versions of the Rectifier amps.

Curious to hear how the Badlander holds up / varies from the the other Recitifiers,

Cheers,

Most say it’s not really a Recto. When I listen to clips, it reminds me of Rev C clips but without the lows of the Recto. Like a modded Marshall by Mesa.
But I haven’t played one.

Afaik they don`t have the crushing low end of the other Rectifiers but they are much easier to dail in. With the other Rectos there`s usually a learning curve to dail them in. For fast and tight riffing, a TS type pedal is a must, unless it`s one of the early revisions like C or D etc

Agreed. It's a fantastic rock amp, or where you want great tone and don't want any of that pesky bottom end hurting the bass player's feelings. Great cut in the mix, killer lead tone. And no balls.

I picked a 50 watt Badlander up off the forum here and plugged it in for the first time today . Doesn't sound quite like my old 2 channel recto but I had it dialed in pretty good in about 13 seconds . Now I remember why I like Rectum Fryers because you can definitely tell it's a recto but the Mesa modded Marshall analogy is not too far off . It has balls but I don't play dark and detuned with the strings falling off the guitar .LOL!

I’ve been running a 100w for the past year. Great amp, but if it’s the Recto sound you’re after, then you might not get that itch scratched with the Badlander.

Thanks fellas,

I definitely felt in the modded marshall camp with it. Should probably test out that Rev G and provide an opinion after. Unfortunately that is a new area to me and all these different Rev models I may never have the benefit of playing!

Lay the favourites out for me!

Cheers,

If you have the opportunity to play a Multiwatt, you get a good idea of what a Rev F sounds. As a modded marshall guy, you probably will be least happy with the 2000-2009 3 channel models.

screw them! its acceptable for bassists to have active electronics with 4 band parametric eq's on board their insturment. they can figure out how and where to cut through :p

The BL is a great sounding amp with a killer growl, but it’s not the huge wall of sound like a Recto. The low end is much more similar to a Marshall. For what your playing it would sound great.
