No Tone Matching. The tone knobs on the AxeFx are set to the exact same positions as the knobs on the real Mark IV. The cab used in the Axe is an IR captured from the real Mesa 4X12.

Dude is a badass...I have a bunch of his IRs and that patch. Works pretty well. One of the things I think the Axe does great is Mesa stuff; there are a few that it can't do...I'm not a fan of the Diezel stuff at all, but I'm a Mesa guy and they kick ass in the Axe.

Daaayuuuum, pretty impressive for sure!!

So this "Quantum", I take it that's the latest FW for the AFX2??

Perhaps one of these days I'll own one again - but I swear, I always grew tired of fussing about with 'em :dunno:

Great tone though - period.

Me too. The Axe gets a great recorded tone but in the room or live with a band and it's a much different story, and not in favor of the Axe.

I had an Axe Fx...latest one...just a few months ago. It ate up ALL my free time...all I did was tweak the thing, for hours...and then I couldn't get it to cut through with my band at ALL...it was sooooooo strange. My buddy LOVES his, but he doesn't play in a band setting...just jams at home. I know at some point tech like this will be the future...I just couldn't get it to work for me. Sold it and got an EVH Stealth. I'm sure it was user error cause others seem to be able to get this to sound great (I think)

That's why I don't own rack shit any longer. I push buttons more than I play.

Ya, I concur... My preamp gear is rackmount, but that's a different story.

While I am uber impressed (and have been uber impressed) with the amazing tech and sounds that came from my several iterations of the AFX/FX2, I just never got that "thud" and "swirling in the room" tone from it. Sure, that's rarely (if ever?) captured on recording, but I find these elements inspirational when I play. So the Axe, even though I really did everything to get it to "in the room" tone, just never got there - it was sterile.

But if I had to be stuck in a cell with only one piece of kit and an guitar, the Axe2 wouldn't be such a bad thing. I just couldn't handle the green-screen kyphosis or frothing for to-be-released buggy updates (with the entire protective community always chiming in, "well you don't HAVE to install the FW upgrade, and hey, what other product do you know that keeps getting better for free? There's no charge for these, be grateful, this is genius, it's incredible, you're not worthy"...!!)

Kinda like "tech shredder meets computer geek extraordinaire" replete with pocket protector, zero style or edge, and spits when he/she talks (and has a penchant for onion bagels).

It's better lately, Mo.

Seriously...I jumped onboard at 18....updated at 19, even though I didn't need to. It's not a TJ or a Deizel, but it's closer than anything else. You get back and got the $, give it another shot, especially if you're into Mesas. It slays for that stuff.

I have not plugged in any of my digital anything in years. I really do not need a simulation of things I own. Some of my friends own the new digital stuff and like it..... For me it is OK.... But do not have any use for it. It has a very long way to go before I would take it serious.

I wanted to get a modeler for late night playing but I was playing my Mark IV last night through a 4x12 at mouse fart volumes and it sounded great. Wife and daughter in the next room sleeping didn't wake up.

But I still want a modeler and I thinking Atomic Amplifire because it's only $500 on the used market. And it can be used in the loop of an amp for delays and verb and whatnot.

I see and have always seen the Fractal as "Pandora's Box" - it's loaded with candy!! But the realization I'd had over the years of owning and selling and owning and selling them is, well, I have the amps I really love the tone of, so what am I doing with this box? While it's a killer novelty when first getting into it, I found personally, the novelty wore off with the tweaking, the Axe-Edit necessity, and so forth. Of my "digital kit" the only thing I kept were the 2 Atomic CLR Active Wedges. I found them to be so versatile, I didn't want to sell 'em - I used them for everything - backing tracks, monitors, etc. Those stayed.

I may give it another whirl down the road, but I'm more inclined to get a smart load box (TwoNotes) and stick with the heads I have. I have these amps because they give me what I want - no need to scroll through the green-screen only to re-find them again.

Gotta say the effects were damn good with the Fractal unit though. Righteously awesome with zero noise. That I dug!

For recording and through headphones, the Axe can't be denied. And the FX is first class. But until it sounds real in front of me, through a power amp and cab I'll keep my tube amps. Danyeo brings up a great alternative.. Atomic Amplifire.

You should try a Kemper. There is way less tweaking. All I ever mess with are bass treble and mid. I was an Axe user for a few years then switched and couldn't be happier.

The IV and Sig X are the two amps I use when I need to keep the dB's down..... I can get a better sound than my 6 watt silver face Champ.

I would be interested in checking out the Atomic...... If anything I have learned over the years it would be spending a lot of money does not mean you are going to get a better sound or product.

Where can I get this guys MKIV settings? For the actual amp?

+1 would like to know myself.

I concierges a kemper or axefx, but at this point they are just too pricey for where I am at. Got a stable of amps I love. So I recently picked up a Mesa ta15, each mode is close to one of my other amps and it works great at low volume. Doesn't have fxs or do silent recording, but for less than $650 it does what I need.

Do you have any ir's that can be used with the torpedo live?

Dude that guy charges for his IR packs and IIRC he sends them in a bunch of different formats, including WAV files. I don't know what the TN stuff uses but you could probably even convert the syx files if you wanted to. I think it's like $25 for 200 or so IRs. You can find them on the Fractal site.

He shows the amp in the video..... Should be able to get pretty close from that. If you get them you could post them here for everyone.
